I really like Gauss rifles and im seeing come to more use right now. It was hard debating whether to put an LRM 20 instead of two 6's for range but promptly decided this mech is screwed if there is no close range capability. It does 54 firepower with 30 shots. I like staying back and sniping them at times while the heat effiency is great if suddenly things get active. Be precise and use enviromental surroundings, if you would like you can cycle 3 lasers as one group and gauss in the other keeping a constant rate of fire.
The 3 Medium lasers and dual SR6's really heats up this mech when someone is in his face. I must admit though I did decent damage with this build compared to everything else I have tried on my own. I'm debating changing the SRM6's to SRM4's to see if I can lower the heat.
I'd move the SRM ammo the the head and leg, out of the way of the side torso, and I've move the Gauss ammo (which doesn't blow up) into the LT and LA. If you're worried about heat, those 3 MLas are the thing that's cooking your 'mech. You could go to SPLases. If you feel the need to drop down to SRM4s, I'd add another ton of Gauss ammo and a DHS with the tonnage you gain.
Thx for the build, i don't run it though, cuz i change the SRMs6 in favor of a LL in the arm. The long range fits better with the gauss's one IMHO, making the mech more reliable in medium and long range (usefull when the fight begins as the mech's speed is average). The 3 MLs still do their job greatly when the battle advance and fighting distances get shorter. But i wouldn't have put my build together if i hadn't saw yours, so thanks again.
As others have said I would move the ammo into the CT that way it can't kill you with an ammo explosion. You also have 14 free slots which is enough for Ferro-Firbrous armor, which then gives you enough free space for a STD270 and will also allow you to max your armor rating. See below
Excellent build for this mech. I'm kinda surprised it's not more common - cause it takes an absolute pounding, has very good firepower and if you split the weapon groups out it's very heat efficient (despite the numbers). I run mine much the same way, only with 4 tons of GR ammo, one SRM6 downgraded to an SRM4 and with FF added (boosting the engine to 270). I also load the SRM ammo split between one leg and head -- and move all Gauss ammo to the left arm and left torso (to help absorb any blast when the arm detaches) and shift more of the ammo forward -- but otherwise pretty much the same. It's the one heavy mech that truly plays like a heavy
You could boost the engine easily to a STD275 instead of the STD270. I hate seeing >1 ton of weight unused. Also: Gauss ammo doesn't explode, srm ammo does. So use Gauss ammo in torsos as 'critpadding'. Feel free to remove 1 ton more armor from RA/legs/head and add in that heatsink slot.
