Hello and Welcome to Mechspecs.com

In this Guide, I hope to show you why this Raven-4X Build is one of the best builds out there. I've piloted this raven throughout many different load outs all the way to it's mastery. I've settled in on this one in particular because it provides many more options to me than the other Ravens. Let me show you!

    Pros

Strong Direct Firepower

Fantastic Cooling

Max Speed (if configured)

High Armor

JJ make everything better
Cons

Vulnerable to Faster Mechs

Vulnerable to Alpha Strikes
What does this mean for you? For starters, keep at range, and only use your MG's when you see a mech part without armor.

    Weapons and Configuration

Large Lasers have a long range, upwards of 900m. While you could run ERLL, their heat is not great to deal with on the hotter maps, such as Terra Therma. The LL give you an advantage in a brawl, where you can get about 6 alpha's from the LL before you have to really worry about your heat.(Mastered, 4 for Basic) That's 108 damage max. imagine all that on one CT! The Machine Guns are great for blowing off limbs without armor, but not much more. So, only use it to remove limbs or weapons without armor.

Given that many players have 4 or more button mice, I recommend this for the weapon configuration.
    Weapon Grouping

2xLL Chainfire

2xMG

2xLL

    Recommended Gameplay

    Early Game

Scout enemy mechs, try to see which are weak or try to pursue you. Ensure you are not damaged by sticking to cover, and engage at 600m plus to take minimal long range damage. Do not close to get a kill, let them follow you. If you can't dis-engage from a brawling light, return to the largest group of team mechs as possible. Harass as best as possible. Stick with similar mechs that can support you in a brawl, and vice versa. Jenners are recommended partners.

    Mid Game

Focus damaged mechs and parts. Don't become the focus of fire from enemy mechs. If an enemy mech is engaged with a friend, distract him with the MG's. Focus fire side torso's and limbs without armor. legging mechs is always recommended, as you can do this the fastest.

    End Game

Your the last mech alive. Stick to cover; go for critical parts. Every weapon removed from a mech gives you an advantage. ALWAYS FACE FORWARD! this means keep your rear to a wall, and make sure they hit your front. This is so you can shoot back, and have the most amount of armor facing the fire.

    Overview

Modules should something to consider. I recommend running a Cap Accerator or the Target Gathering Info as your first. For your second, Seismic Sensor or a Coolshot are great. TGI and a coolshot really make a great combo for Assault games, while Cap and Seismic are a great combo for Conquest. But for such a simple rig, keep this in mind. You are to destroy limbs on mechs, and open armor on larger mechs. Keep to cover and grind them down. Let team mechs do the damage, and make sure you take limbs off when given the chance.

Thanks! I'm trying to use PowerDirector 10 to do some better editing, so I hope it comes out better next time.

Poor Epikt in his Locust :(
It was a pleasant game, mostly cap race and light skirmish by my side, we did well, but unfortunately our heavy pack lost the brawl. Nice to be able to watch it from another point of view.

About your build, it's the best RVN-4X build I have pilot.
(actually I'm speaking about the old XL245 variant, since I haven't tweak mine yet, but I expect the XL275 variant to be great)

This build with work for a new raven pilot as it fits with the standard 175 engine you get stock, and you can have all 5 JJs. You are obviously not as fast, but you are an excellent harassment mech, running around the fight and pinging targets, and the agility of the JJs compensates somewhat for "only" going 81. It was a lot of fun for me to try it out and do stuff with. Now that I am finally able to buy the XL engine that version is obviously a lot faster, but the slower version is not bad at all and can do some serious damage. I was running 200+ damage games with it, and I was able to keep going after losing a torso too. ^_^

I'd recommend the XL275 or the XL255 versions, there just aren't enough 'mechs that use the XL245, and it runs hotter.

The MGs should be a good companion to the LLas, although I'd worry about the durability of this 'mech at point plank range. Those and the JJs (finally) give this raven something that the others can't do quite as well.
