Volley of 50 LRMs with Artemis and 4MPLs as backup weapons. The heat efficiency is +40% for either the LRMs or MPLs with no range overlap... Nathan
Did a very similar thing, but upped the engine a bit by downgrading to Mediums. Just to allow for better positioning, should it be needed.
Excellent builds gentlemen! I was actually just getting ready to post something similar when I saw yours. One suggestion based on my running of the "Woosh" variant of the Awesome 8R; drop a medium to add TAG, I've found it a highly recommended tool with missile-heavy designs, particularly with the prevalence of ECM (That and I am tempted to call this the "Wooshmaster"...lol).
BLR-1S with TAG and a ton of Armor though you could jump up to a 325XL... I just didn't want to bother... (I'll rename it with your permission, if you want....) The MPLs are there for the lights who go "Oooohhhhh a LRM boat... lets go get him" make it a bit more punishing for them to bother you... feel like thats worth a 5kpm drop in speed...
I dont know why you would use 2x LRM10 when the LRM20 does the same thing and frees up an extra ton. I like TAG since Im making it rain. The 3 MLas is more than enough for if someone gets close. Use your speed to bail from bad situations. AMMO AMMO AMMO. There is then this, if you really want to use the MPLas
You use 2xLRM10 instead of 1xLRM20 because it fires all the missiles in one salvo. If you don't care for that then you can use the 20, but 50 missiles in one salvo is a thing of beauty when trying to get past a couple of AMS clustered together.
1x LRM 20 != 2x LRM 10, even when they're in the same localtion and even if you always group fire the LRM 10s. The issue is that the missile tubes for the BLR-1S LT are 2x10, not 1x20. That's two separate groupings of 10 tubes, so a single LRM 20 can only use half of that and will always fire in two salvos of 10 missiles rather than one salvo of 20. You can actually see it in the mech bay when changing the loadout if you put 2 LRM10s in: 10 tubes are on top of the shoulder, 10 tubes are in the chest.
The point of the build is to put 50 missles in the air at once not 40+10 as has already been pointed out.... if you want 40 in the air 4 LRM10s would be better cause they would all have the same cyclic rate...firing at 3.75 seconds instead of waiting 4.75 seconds... something like this. ... BLR-1S
No, they fixed this in the newer chassis as they will use all possible missile tubes available in a location. I tested this last night, and the BLR-1S will fire an LRM20 in a single salvo. Huh, looks like I was mistaken and I left it on the Dual LRM10 build (probably hit cancel instead of save build).
Just tested it, and nope, you're wrong -- it fires in two salvos (unless for some reason they made it behave differently in Testing Grounds, but that seems unlikely). Also, only the shoulder rack appears (with 10 tubes) while the chest rack remains missing in the mech bay, though granted that isn't really an indication. Edit: well, I was going to test it in a real game, and then my game locked up before I fired a single shot... so much for that. Edit2: second attempt, confirmed in a real game. LRM 20 in the LT fires off 20 missiles divided into two salvos.
Hmm, I'll have to check again, then. It is possible I switched my build around at some point and went with Dual LRM10's instead, and forgot about it.
What an Orion VA wants to be when it grows up. Beautiful build, man. Everything I want in an LRM boat. Beautiful.
