I really enjoy piloting this 'Mech. It's speed allows me to get behind most other 'Mechs easily and an LB 10-X round to the back followed by 4x Pulse Lasers tends to make short work of the heaviest opponents. As long as you are taking the time to shoot accurately, heat is seldom an issue. This is the version I have been running for some time now. I guess I should have posted it sooner.
You get a 5* I like the build a lot, seems like it would do a great job at peeling armor, and if you're ignored for even one pass you can do significant damage... Makes me wanna get a Flame of my own >.
Thank You. I really like this build and although I am primarily a Light or Medium pilot, I take this one out a number of times each week. This 'Mech is an opportunist, waiting for an enemy 'Mech to focus on another 'Mech. This gives you the chance to fall in behind him or her and do your worst. this 'Mech should never engage in a head to head with an equal or heavier 'Mech, LB-10X damage just isn't focused enough.
Is there a reason you're storing ammo in the torso instead of the legs? I always felt storing it lower offered a better buffer, especially because legging a heavy is a rare (although not unheard of) event. This looks like a good light-hunter build. My problem is I take my time to aim, especially with anything AC/10 and up, so the easy-aim aspect of the shotgun is actually a hindrance to my playstyle.
I aim the LB10-X in exactly the same fashion as I do any other Autocannon in the game. You still have to lead the target, you still have to take range into effect and your target reticle is the center of the shot pattern. Ignore the fact that it is a shotgun and you will do well. In regard to Ammo in the legs; I don't trust having it there because I hunt legs more often than not on anything smaller than an Assault 'mech. Pilots tend to shave more from the legs then anywhere else and ammunition explodes. Myth
I've been running this build around for a while and while it's kinda on the squishy side the LBX works way better then i expected. Has anyone tried stripping some of MPLs to add a bigger engine? I wonder if giving the build some additional mobility might make it even better.
It is very seldom that I get less than three kills with this 'mech in a match, unless I have somehow dropped the ball from the beginning. While I agree that speed is usually the most important aspect for any 'mech (I don't drive 'em if they don't go fast) i find that the speed of this 'mech and it's damage output/armor are really well balanced. I'm glad people are using this 'mech, it is one of my favourites in it's weight class. Myth.
I find the 300 XL to offer the most firepower in this chassis, excepting the 250 STD, for obvious reasons . The others may be faster, but the 300 XL gives a lot of speed for a Heavy with still plenty of firepower.
I feel like I just can't accept a Dragon unless it uses its missile hardpoint. So, I downgraded the pulses and added an ASRM4. Every crit, ton, and weapon hardpoint is now used. Edit: Of course, I realize how silly it seems to add Artemis to a single SRM launcher, feel free to trade it for a ton of SRM ammo.
Archwright, I think this is an excellent build and that the added SRM's will be a benefit to you. I believe in using the simplest possible weapon loadout when I first start using a different chassy. This was the first of the Dragon's that I used and the simplified weapon loadout stuck. I'm sure you will close down a few more 'mechs then you might have due to the added fire power. In my case, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Myth.
This is the version I have been running for some time now. I guess I should have posted it sooner. I doubt I will ever change this 'mech now as it runs really smoothly and is very killy.
I think your build is fantastic Archwright. If you haven't already, you should give it it's own thread for people to see . I went with the faster build minus the SRM but it is a matter of style. If Speed wasn't such an issue for me I would run your version of this 'mech. Myth. Post Script: I think it is important to mention that the SRM on any Dragon build can be the deciding factor in an engagement. I use an SRM4 on my Fang and an SRM6 on my DRG-1C. I started using them because UntamedZer0 insisted that it would be useful and he was right. I average at least one more kill per match with the SRM's mounted, they are almost an afterthought but it is the thought that counts!
Leave it to Phaedrus to figure out how to put in a bigger engine! Myth, I took this build and combined it with my brawler template to make my 1N build, the Helix Cannon. I've found the LBX to be slightly worse against assaults than a bigger gun, but against lights the LB makes hitting the legs every time easy. The reason I chose the 1N is the double missile slots lets me do 2xSRM4 + LB10X, a nice barrage of spreadfire damage.
I need to do this with so many of the 'mechs I've posted inside threads. Maybe I'll get around to the bookkeeping tonight (or this weekend).
Archwright, I actually only have missiles on one of my 4 dragons right now; the 1N. I can actually fit 2 SRM4s on it, don't really feel it worth it otherwise (especially post-nerf, they're not really mandatory anymore). I don't think Artemis is worth it on a SRM4. I'd go with an extra ton of ammo on yours.
SRM's are still a vital piece of equipment, the SRM6 on my Dragon-1C is responsible for probably 25% of my kills. It is that extra punch while everything else is recycling. Myth.
While this is true, 2 of my Dragon builds utilize 350 XL or bigger with no ballistic or missile weapons, and the other non-SRM build uses a Gauss and an ER Large with 2 mediums and a 325 XL. Not much room for missiles. I'm just saying they're nice, but not mandatory, IMO.
Well someone has found the ideal build for the LB10-X FLAME. His name is PhaedrusBE and he posted this build on one of Archwright's threads. This is by far the best build I have seen for this close combat monster. Thank You PhaedrusBE, this PhaedrusBE Flame is the FLAME loadout I will be using from now on.
So here it is...The new and Improved Flame. With 0.01 Tons space for Beer and Women! Thank you to all of you who have had input into this final incarnation.
