As per Bryan via twitter, the Locust will be able to mount a 190-size engine. Prior to this the max engine was told to be 170. Source: Twitter
The XL170 took the Locust to what 151? So the XL190 should bring it all the way to the speed cap but maybe a bit beyond?
Some quick estimates I made trying to follow the linear engine formula: 175 - 141.8/155.9 kph, 100.31 deg/sec turn speed 180 - 145.8/160.4 kph, 103.18 deg/sec 185 - 149.9/164.8 kph, 106.04 deg/sec 190 - 153.9/169.3 kph, 108.91 deg/sec To give a point of reference for turn speed, a Jenner with a 300 engine turns 98.27 deg/sec, which is the current maximum.
Thanks DB! Looks like they have finally broken the speed barrier. The Locust will be the fastest little bad boy out there and man that torso twist speed must be KILLER.
No problem. Since you mentioned Torso Twist speed, I had a little look into that as well. The formula seems to be: (Engine Rating/Tonnage)*20 degrees/sec So for the Locust, the Torso Twist speed is simply the same as the Engine Rating, e.g. XL190 = 190 deg/sec For reference, the maximum twist speeds on the current lights are: Commando - 168 deg/sec (210 engine) Spider - 170 deg/sec (255 engine) Jenner - 171 deg/sec (300 engine) Raven - 168 deg/sec (295 engine) I referenced all the data points from Smurfy. They don't seem to include Twist Speed upgrades (there are buttons for different levels of Twist X), so presumably those numbers can be increased 20/40% with Basics/Elites. For the Locust, with a 190 engine that would mean 190/228/266 deg/sec (vs. 171/205/239 on a 300 Jenner). Of course, none of these numbers do justice to how this will feel in the cockpit.
It's going to be interesting to see what you can do with such an incredibly tiny mech and a huge engine - not much room for anything else probably.
I've been working on some variant ideas in my head based on what info is available on MWOMERCS and SARNA. I'm thinking 3x SLas, 2x MLas, XL190, AMS for the 3M but it would require Endo, Ferro and most likely DHS. Essentially you are going to have to decide "Do I want speed or do I want weaponry" on this mech.
I'm so excited for this little sucker! I'm going to get SO dizzy! XL190 weighs 6T which still leaves room for max armor and 4x MG w/ 3T ammo and an MLas or a single LL on my Phoenix.
XL190, Endo & Fero, 2 extra DHS (3?), ERLL, 2 MG / 1t and maxed armor (short of 2 points?) should be possible if I got it right.
Trying to line up shots in an ERPPC Commando running at full speed actually made me feel queasy. I don't know if I'll be able to handle this one.
With Endo, FF, XL190 and the three additional heat sinks needed, you will have 6T free. That is with max armor (less three points to make an even ton)
Also; "Adjusted engine weight." Whaaa? Does this mean we may get an XL190 under 6T? Might we actually be able to fit some MGs with a LL and max engine without going into battle in our skivvies?
Maybe they finally fixed the few engines that didn't equate to the correct weights with the 10 minimum heat sinks. Or maybe they separated the gyro and/or cockpit weight from the engine. Could be many things. I, for one, hope that they didn't fiddle with the tabletop weights. They mess with those and they might as well call it Generic Giant Stompy Robot Game #1099.
Based on the current weights and leaving 2 tons for the upgrade to a 190, this is what I'll be running on Oct. 15 http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=50000&l=194f35bbf419141f1eaee0cc06e919c6d205bcc6
