Piranha Games' free-to-play MechWarrior Online is little more than a week old following its official full launch on September 17, but the game's development team is already looking towards the future.

Chatting on camera during the game's official North American launch event in San Francisco, Pirahna Games' Russ Bullock and Bryan Ekman first talked about the game's release before hinting at things to come.

"This is two years in the making, you know," Bullock stated. "We're really excited to be at this point finally after all the hard work."

Working with an IP that nearly three decades of gaming history behind it wasn't an easy task, say the devs, but they were happy to do it.

"Both Russ and I played the original MechWarriors," Ekman pointed out. "To be able to bring this franchise back to modern gaming is huge and to be a part of that legacy now - this 30 year legacy - it makes us very proud."

Once the dust settles from the game's launch, however, it's back to work for the folks at Piranha Games. The company already has a good amount of content planned in just the first year alone.

"This is just the beginning," said Bullock. "We've now laid the framework and the base of this big pyramid and we've got this really fun core action experience that people can play."

The game already boasts hunderds of different mech variations at players disposals and two more maps are already in the works for release this year, which will bring the total to ten playable areas. Bullock pointed out, however, that there's yet more in the works.

"We're gonna continue with major releases," he explained. "We've got a major update to our user interface, a major update in the faction war that Bryan mentioned [earlier in the interview], and then the clan invasion comes which is another big thing MechWarrior fans know about."

Bullock continues, "This is the start, really. We're just saying to the world 'Hey, it might be officially launched now, but we're not done by any stretch."

Cute and funny at th same time... They could have said the same thing a year ago.
But I guess it is a good thing to have more players though. Now new guys, go buy the PP project package so I can have the flame pattern.

What the HELL update are they talking about? YOU CAN'T FUCKING UPDATE SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T FUCKING EXIST YET.

THERE IS NO FACTION WAR. THERE IS JACKDICK REGARDING WAR, OR FACTIONS. SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY UPDATING.

What just happened was the equivalent of a waiter coming to your table after you've sat around for an hour waiting for your meals, he says "wanted to update you on your steak - it's being cooked" and then drops another basket of bread on the table. FUCK that shit. I want my steak I've sat around for an hour waiting to pay good money for. If I wanted bread and a waste of time I would've ordered pizza with breadsticks from a cheap local joint.

I cant even make myself watch that... Id rather now be ignorant of what say and just act super surprised and happy.. when a new map or mech comes...

Really? I count 101 not hundred's and it would be less than 100 if you don't count the (C) versions since they are the same as the normal version layout.

They should mind as well say millions of mech customized variations possable. Well, it is just as misleading.

Yeah, I'm thinking they are talking about putting different weapons in like a small laser vs a medium etc. Very misleading but at least they are getting a bit of publicity.

If they had said "Hundreds of 'Mechs" you would have been right.
If they had said "Hundreds of 'Mech variants" you would have been right.

But they said "Hundreds of 'Mech variations" which is not misleading at all -- it's perfectly accurate.

Picking nits is fine and dandy when there are nits to pick. This time there are none.
