A PPC Jenner that may actually be worth using regularly.

The idea here is to maximize your survivability, while still causing significant and constant irritation to the enemy. Something like this, I anticipate being ideal for getting people out of a cap zone, or hunting snipers, or just being really frickin' annoying. It has enough heat dissipation to fire the PPC nearly nonstop. It has max speed, which makes you really hard to hit by anything at PPC range. It also has very close to maximum armor (to be said in the Crysis voice of course) so that you an take quite a few hits. I sacrificed the jump jets because I don't think they're needed for this role. The BAP is there to give you the intel you need to hunt your targets better and also not encounter any unwelcome surprises. The triple Small Pulse Lasers are for encounters within the PPC threshold of 90 meters. Still decent damage and you should be able to hold your own if you are ambushed by another Light. Anything bigger, you can just run away from and poke at him from a distance with near impunity. This is not meant to be a high-alpha Jenner. Its meant to stay in the game and continue to provide a constant annoyance to the enemy from a nearly unreachable position. If you're a good pilot and are on top of your situational awareness, I think this mech might be a winner.

Honestly, I can never pilot a Jenner without JJ. The survivability and advantage they give are just too great to not run. Personally, I would run without BAP, an XL295, add 2x JJ and 2x SL.

Gives you more power inside that 90m curtain and JJs for maneuverability/survivability. BAP can be a good advantage to gain targeting range/info, but, I think the mech is more efficient with speed and agility. No to mention a little more punch if someone gets in close. Moreover, you still have 52% heat efficiency with only basic skills while only firing your lasers.

You could also sacrifice the two SL for an additional heat sink if your focus is the PPC.

About the JJ's... when I use them typically it makes me into a big fat slow flying target. You can't maneuver at all while in the air, so they seem to be pretty inappropriate for evasion, but more useful for getting into places you normally can't get into, like on the top of a big steep cliff or out of a canyon w/o running around. Also, I was trying to keep the XL300 engine for cost reasons, since so many builds use them. Putting on a 295 would cost a heap of extra cbills.

I haven't used the BAP on any mech personally so I can't vouch for its usefulness. If the JJ is more useful to this build than a BAP, then that's a fairly easy trade I guess.

Precisely this - jumping on a Jenner isn't so much about the elevation or air time as it is about reducing the effects of gravity as you walk up an otherwise unscalable wall, or maintaining elevation across a gap for a shortcut. The maneuverability factor is what makes Jenners survivable and annoying in the first place - they're not horribly hard to hit like spiders.

As for the BAP, no point in boosting your sensor range further than your PPC can effectively reach, and the target info gathering is hardly a good use of 2 slots and 1.5 tons.

I'd add JJ too, and remove the BAP.

    Two other thought:
    - I'd trade the SPL for ML - it's a long range build, better give the backup weapons a decent range;
    - the build would be better on a JR7-K to benefit from the 2 additional modules (increased sensor range if you miss your BAP).

Regarding using ML instead of SPL, the tradeoff is purely range vs heat, right? The DPS is virtually the same between the two. They also weigh the same.

Is it worth the extra heat for that doubled range? Perhaps. Although for a top speed Jenner, isn't range going to be less of an issue? I can see it both ways.

Beforehand I want to say that I'm a HUGE fan of SPL on the jenner. JR7-F is my favorite mech by far, and I'm using 6x SPL since it has been balanced few months ago. So it's not a question of this weapon being bad compared to ML (or of me thinking so).

But I played those kind of builds combining very close range weapons with long range. I felt it drawn me to play bad. And that actually it's hard to play good with it.
Long range? You have 3 tons of useless weaponry, you're driven to get closer.
Short range? Your long range weaponry just mean more heat. Or worse, in case of standard PPC, 7 tons of useless weaponry.
In both situations you're not at ease.

After actually building it and trying it out, I'm having a blast, but I find I don't really use the SPL's. So I took them off, added an AMS which is actually helpful, and added a couple more jump jets and more armor. The single PPC fills the role I am after with this mech, which is to seriously annoy the big mechs, and also to get a lot of kill assists (which it does very well I must say). I also find that its an excellent anti-capping mech. When I find a light mech has started capping my base, I can run back fast and poke at them from a distance till they die or run away.

I completely agree. With a PPC, I'd save the heat and run the SPLs to keep up damage at a cooler efficiency inside that 90m curtain. I'm actually about to run your build for a bit. I like the idea, I'll let you know how it turns out and may re-rate the build.

PS: As you change how you're running, you may want to redo you build and either A) Update this post or B) Make a new post with the build that is currently most successful for you (only if it is a significant change from this post)

    Cheers, Recon!

    Awesome,thanks.

Currently I'm going to be trying it with AMS and no short range weapons at all. Yes it only has the one PPC as its only weapon, and yes its not much damage at all, but I've got a reason for this. First, it fills a specific role rather well. It does anti-capping nicely, and it seriously distracts big mechs, to the point where you have a lot of control over the enemy team. I have no trouble at all attracting the enemy's attention or making them chase me. With this kind of power, I can direct the flow of the battle single handedly in many cases. I can keep three large mechs busy with me while the rest of my team is more effective because those three big mechs are not busy with my team. I am also still a great capping mech too. Its also a great mech for earning cbills because you can run around smacking everybody upside the head and get lots of kill assists. Perhaps most of all, its really FUN!! I have an absolute blast running around with a "Big Stick" whacking people with it while I am the fastest mech in the game.

Will keep this thread updated as I learn more. :)

I run a Spider with a single PPC and while that has ECM, I have had plenty of 400+ damage rounds and 3-4 kills. A single PPC is still a valid loadout for a light. I prefer more firepower on a Jenner, but, if you prefer a PPC Jenner, the speed of a light can make it a very effective platform.

I ran a few rounds with the loadout you posted, minus BAP w/ 2x JJ and had moderate success. (300-400 damage, good control of the field) Definitely a solid addition to a group for the correct niche pilot.

One thing I noticed today is that I never even came close to overheating, so I replaced the PPC with an ERPPC. This allows me to not worry about the 90m range, AND it comes in very very handy on Alpine, where you sit up by the big radio tower while the teams duke it out below. I was up there today with just the PPC, and I was barely out of range of some enemy heavies that were trying to hit me from below. Unfortunately it did not appear I was hitting them either. Interestingly, in that same round after I died, I saw someone else in a Jenner, but with two PPCs. He must have sacrificed speed to fit that, along with heaps of armor, and AMS, etc. I'm really preferring AMS on this mech because its just so fragile in general, and I am always getting big mech's attention. I typically come very close to running out of AMS ammo before the end.

Here's the public opinion regarding my Jenner:

It seems I have named it appropriately. ^_^

FYI, I'm currently using it like this.

TAG is of limited use but I have it always on, binding it to my analog joystick throttle. So whenever I point at something, they get tagged automatically. I don't have much else I can use the other arm for, so I figure TAG is better than nothing.

AMS I have to say, has saved my bacon MANY MANY times in this mech. I highly recommend it.

I know people using TAG to help with the aim: when the crossair turns red it means you're aiming at something.

PS: did you tried the PPC on a spider? I find the spider better than the jenner for that kind of PPC annoyance. More JJs, slim profile, ECM,... I got a lot of "fuck you spider bitch"! ;)

I don't have a Spider, and I hesitate to hop on the "easy win" wagon because spiders are truly flawed in their hitbox size or something. I've seen a spider pilot disconnect and his mech just stand still and he was still hard to hit! There's definitely something wrong with it.I don't need that kind of crutch I don't feel like it would be as satisfying.

The slim profile of the mech is a particularity of the spider, so it will always be hard to hit, but the hitbox sure needs to be reworked a little (same as the raven's was).

the spider's hit box is fine. trust me, it's easy to die in these things. If you are not rubberbanding...

If I had a c-bill for every ac20 and SRM shot that animated and sounded like a hit, but dealt no damage... I just can't wait for knockdown so you have to have at least a little piloting skill to reap the insane passive rewards of a Spider.

Last night I went up against a spider with an AC20 Highlander. It was Texas Merc, and while i didn't kill him, I hit his leg 3 times in a row with my AC20.

Careful not to confuse HSR failure with misconceived hitbox.
I still believe the hitbox is too thin (I must have more than 200 deaths on a spider, I know how fast you can die on those things, but still), but I understand that until the HSR issue is not fixed it's hard to tell how much it need to be modified, if it really needs to be.
