I can't get this thing to work for me... and I was wistfully waiting for a sale on this CTF variant. Both my W/L and K/D ratio are abysmal low and I seem to be unable to deal more than 200 damage a match with this build. Sometimes it seems as if it has no armor at all. Last time I felt that stranded was when trying out Commandos....

So how do you play this thing? This obv. isn't a brawler, but the burst damage isn't good enough to be a second line sniper. You'll be outclassed and outgunned by any Stalker or *gasp* Awesome when trying to play that way.

How much armour do you have to your CT front? I don't run more than 22 in the back, sometimes even 2-4 points less than that.

You basically attack from medium ranges, hold the button down and go to town. When it jams, just continue until all three are jammed. Use the Med Lasers to soften them further up when you retreat.

When you are hot, use a chainfire button on the three UACs.

You usually should pair up with someone who has similiar weapons or mostly lasers for the same range department at ~400 meters.

And with the weapons on full auto you can brawl... unless the jam. That's the downside of the UACs.

    CT: 70 / 16
    RT + LT: 45 / 15

That's basically what I am doing. Holding back a bit, let the brawlers engagne and then pick my targets. The thing is - exactly this can be done better by a 5LL Stalker or something similar in my view. Additionally it happens that one can't always choose to engage a fight in this way.

Maybe I've got some bad luck, but that might be unlikely for nearly all of my 30 or so games with the Ilya. And maybe bad hit registration currently in game adds to this as well. For now I am considering switching to 2x Gauss + 3x ML which seems to work better at the moment. However, I really DO LOVE UACs!

I know. Iam a huge fan of them and try to squeeze them in every mech I own from time to time. No matter if it's YLW, aCat K2, JM6s or even my Heavy Metal and DDC.

Thanks for you help and suggestions, I highly appreciate it!

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to optimise the chain-firing of 3 x UAC/5s with a macro? With a 0.367 or 0.37 sec (or whatever) delay between shots you should be able to maintain a solid ROF without the risk of a jam (1.1 sec reload time for the UAC/5 - correct me if I'm wrong). Should improve on the in-game chainfire and hey, you can still spam the things on a different group...

I just registered here to say that this Setup is da bomb! :p

I tried almost every Setup u could possibly play on a Cataphractl. LL-Boat, Sniper(ppc/gauss), Brawler with AC20 and ML, but this is just so much fun.

Its just so versatible! You can Snipe, give support fire, make enemies duck out and are still awesome at Brawling as well.

I usually hit everything in sight at long range to make em duck away and then start to flank them while the shitload of PPC/Gauss boats that you got in every game just hit anything that moves.

So much fun to burst the back CT of an Assault while hes tryin to get cover from your teams long range fire.

I find the most useful part of this build is scaring the living crap out of someone who's not really ready to have their cockpit shaken constantly by the barrage. The dakka hurled out at a constant rate is awesome, and most pilots just seem to get so distracted and surprised that they just run away, leaving that tasty back-fat for those UAC's to chew on. I even took on an Atlas, ran right at his face, and cored him before he could take any part of me orange in this thing. I probably use this as a brawler more than I should, and against any really skilled pilots it can fall apart, but PUB stomping as a brawler and causing pilots to crap themselves is just so much fun.

Honestly the ML's are a pain for me. I fire them off when waiting for my UAC's to rearm and it seems to cook right through the DHS's. I'm finding that it's almost best to use them ONLY when you run out of UAC ammo... which I have... and it was glorious! Seriously this is possibly the most fun build I've ever played.

Just a quick fight in Canyon and showing the power of this build to chase down, kill and later on deter enemies from showing themselves too much. 2 kills and 600 dmg in total.

Apologies for the swedish Mumble chat in the background but then again, as we are FRR and that is the national tongue we could be very canon authentic I suppose...

Just had the most epic fight i ever had in my whole MWO carreer. And ofc it was in my Chainsaw, even though i was leveling my Atlas for days and just swapped into it cause both Atlas' were in game.

Had two afkers on team and three suicidal maniacs who just rushed to death in two minutes. So it was me, a Stalker and a Phract vs two Jagers, three Phracts, a Dragon and a Hunchback. When they came over the hill i just duckfired em away everytime they showed up while our Stalker pumped Missiles into them. They decided to flank us then with 2 phracts and a jager, which i saw coming and hid behind a building. They were all dmged from sniper battles and ran one by one into my Dakkatrap. After i finished them off i was pretty damaged and had no Ammo left, but already 3 Kills and 1 Assist. Meanwhile my buddies killed another Phract, so when i came back to their battle it was 3v3. I lasered the remaining Jager in the back cause they focoused our Stalker and managed to kill him with my 3 ML somehow. When our stalker exploded fighting the Dragon and Hunch i was a little worried again, but with my next shot i killed the hunches hunch and shit was going awesome again. We finally lasered the hunch to death and the remaining Dragon didnt stand much of a chance against my three Mediumlasers of Doom and my Phract buddy.

Turned out to be 916 dmg with 5 Kills and 2 Assists. Holy crap on a cracker, that battle was awesome.

And yes, im running with less Ammo and a 3rd med laser. LOVING THIS BUILD MORE EVERY DAY! :p

This is my macro for chain firing as fast as possible without jamming. It's insanely scary.

you got each uac5 on a different group with that makro i guess ?

if youre not using the jam option you could just put in ac5s though. i just fire on cooldown and if i jam i torso twist/hide behind obstacles until im ready again.

chainfiring makes you vulnerable in my opinion. better to dish out as much as possible as quick as possible and then avoid dmg until youre ready again.

The macro sounds good to me. The rate of fire is still faster than AC5s.

Sure, sometimes you may want to spam them, jamming be damned. But you can just have a separate group for that. Other times you may want to lay down a steady stream of fire without worrying about a jam.

I think you would want to have the option to do either, depending on the situation.

This build is simply amazing. the dmg output on this thing is great as well. 5/5

EDIT: i dont run the UAC5's as i think they jam waay to often so i run the regular AC5's

    Great build man!
Noob question about this macro tho. Never done any macros before :p What is the program in this screen?

The program is Logitechs controller software. Not sure you can use it on non-logitech devices since one has to select the device (Keyboard, mouse etc) from a drop down list of supported tech.

I use a minor variation of the OP's build. I drop a ton of ammo and add a third MLaser. This has got to be the most fun mech/build I've ever played. I love making assault mechs back off, and they do all to often.

Ammo sometimes runs a little short, but very rarely do I run dry and so haven't considered taking more ammo.

New reduction in jam rate on the UAC-5 from 25 to 15% chance makes this build significantly better that before... and was good already!

Incredible build! Since last patch this became one of the kings of the battlefield.
The only thing you have to care for at the moment is the distance you start to shoot, anything above 600m became a waste of ammunition in my opinion.

Never had so much fun opening and sawing of limbs/torsos from Assaults, aka "zombiefying" and slowly killing them of with the med lasers to conserve ammo. :D

In a one on one situation there is nothing that can best this build, other than really really bad luck with the jamming. ;)

    Update on the build...

    AutoHotKey FireControl v2.5
Timing: 320ms seems to be about right for me now.

Originally I was using 300ms BUT the very next day I had to put a 320ms - 330ms delay on the macro so either they are changing numbers server side without telling folks or ping / data bottleneck has a little bit to do with things? A friend of mine in Europe was trying to use the exact same settings I am with AutoHotKey and he kept jamming; in fact it was double firing some of his UACs. His ping is also around 200ms higher than mine.

This mech is easily capable for 1000 damage matches, even if you don't survive the match.

320ms works fine for me too (Europe, ~100ish ping)!
