I love 3 or four AC/2 builds. I have run them very successfully with no laser backup and just experiment with it until I can find that perfect balance between enough ammo to finish the match and enough DHS. I prefer having backup weapons. but dont feel they are required or make a build bad. I think its kinda ballsy to run only ammo dependent builds.

Check out this vid it will show you why I do not like the quad AC2 only build especially when you can have a quad build and still have backup weapons.

By the way its just a coincidence you saying this because this video was made before this came up.

Since i dont use macros i dont really spend much time watching them work with the UAC5, but jesus man...not 1 fuckin jam in any of those UAC videos. That 3rd party macro shit is for sure super fucking imbalanced.

I agree with you that having backup weapons is better but in some builds it is not as critical IMO. And right now nothing is more brutal than the chainsaw build on a Jag. I have that exact build and know its potential very well. But I also play the AC2 build differently than most i guess because I always alpha strike all 4 AC2's and usually play peek-a-boo and get off 3 or 4 alphas then go back into cover.

So i guess i am saying that it being cringe-worthy is IMO too much. Compared to an Atlas with an XL? Not even close.

Agree totally. At first I used the macros but I actually found if I keep the UACs on 3 seperate mouse keys and click really fast I can triple even the macros rate of fire albeit with a helluva lot of jams so I quit using it some time ago. In fact I am putting a video up on my page later where I got over 900 damage WITHOUT using the macro but was STILL accused of using it lol. Make sure and check it out to see what I mean about the rate of fire. You can find my page by searching for KTFO BlindSide.

Oh and don't forget tomorrow is UAC nerf day. They are apparently going to have the same rate of fire as the AC-5 but will still be able to be fired early.

Okay...new one. Firebrand with 2 gauss only and 40 rounds of ammunition :)

Any assault mech with small lasers. It's like putting a french tickler in a slot where you could put a ML.

Nothing quite as much as this new trend of Atlases runing XL builds. It both cracks me up and makes me cringe. The Atlas may have the armor to justify it, but it just doesn't do the job with how they get focused first, almost every time they are spotted.

Actually I think this build might actually work, if you can keep yourself out of sight and fire a few times you might even earn your worth..

But the slow speed and paper armor would spell death in so many ways.

Agree the damage would be staggering but you could do almost the same thing with 2 gauss and an ERPPC and have 8 tons remaining to put into armor or engine or well...just about anything.

Although you could accomplish similar damage with better armor, the play-style of the mech would be drastically altered for a number of reasons.
    1) Focus fire. All three of those gauss rifles are going to a single location on an enemy mech either destroying it or opening it up in just 1-2 volleys if it is close enough, but still doing substantial damage at extreme ranges of ~1000m. Replacing one with a PPC or ERPPC remove the effective damage to a single location.

    2) Velocity. The Gauss rifle velocity is much faster than the PPC and ERPPC. This makes it a lot more viable and accurate at 800-1000m ranges. Allows you to take shots at moving mechs with surprising results. Having only gauss to worry about helps you focus on shots and only take shots you are confident will hit the target.

    3) Concealment. As a sniper in the back-field, one of the most crucial goals is to remain hidden and/or low-priority. Nothing says "hey look, i'm sniping you from over here" like giant beams of light shooting across the map. Gauss on the other hand is much less visible due to its profile, small trail, and faster velocity.

Those are the three key factors that make this build cringe worthy if you have the right team to support it. Hell, with good enough situational awareness this build does pretty well regardless of your team.

Ugghh, I had a match with one of these on my team a couple weeks ago. At the end of the match he was reduced to yelling at us because we all sucked so much, watching uselessly while the enemy finished off the last of our team.

sorry bud yer never going to convince me that having 16 volleys and then out is ever a good idea. I have seen losses in too many matches because someone runs out of ammo and couldn't contribute.
    A. 2 Gauss is easily doable on a Jager or K2 or a Cat while retaining the ability to have backup weapons armor and mobility and MORE ammunition. My Cataphract often runs 2 Gauss with 70rnds and 2 ML.
    B. How often is the maximum range of the gauss actually used. The vast majority of engagements happen at less than 1k
    C. The ERPPC, while slower, has the added benefit of removing ECM and is usable at the realistic engagement ranges on the majority of maps. Against a stationary target and when grouped with 2 gauss an ERPPC will do almost the same pinpoint damage as 3 Gauss while saving 8 tons and removing the need for its ammo. At 1000meters per MechLab an ERPPC does exactly the same damage as a Guass because of range dmg decay. You STILL have 50 shots with the Gauss but add unlimited shots with the ERPPC.

basically no matter whether you use 2 or 3 Gauss you are limited to 50 rounds which is only 750 damage assuming you do not miss a single shot.

At a realistic long range accuracy of 65% that only equals 488dmg
Even assuming 3 of 4 shots hit at extremely long range (even against moving targets) thats only 562 damage

Let's move discussion of the build to the build thread itself so we don't de-rail

Actually even with jager it is quite easy to run 2x Gauss with 2x MLas with 60-70 Ammo and still have reasonable armor, I used to run that at one point, and it is quite effective. The smaller profile and the movement arc of the arms really helps when shooting around the corners. A bit slow so you will have to work with the teams.

Now, a jager with 6x MG and two SLas, on the other hand...
