Is anyone really surprised that our friend Soy put together another highly efficient and effective Cataphract?
Yeah this build can work well. But I would prefer PPCs + ERLLas for even faster Cooling. Looks very similar&better to this one http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=3104.0
Shhh!!! I will put up a showcase video for the build this week. After avoiding this sort of stuff for a couple weeks, I started recording again last night - this is one of the builds I've been working on for a couple weeks and it's been a process that started as just an experiment and ended up being legit. I figured it'd be a good time to record and unveil it this week before launch. Yes that is the correct build - including the armor points (I take it Bolt linked my preview of the smurfy build in TS?) - though it does ofc have a few subvariants, including a STD version and more brawlish versions... those will be shown as well. I'll post vid when I get it done soon enough to talk about the finer subtleties of the build, why it is the way it is, how to use it, the subvariants, and how the build even came to exist. Blagg - holy fuck, that Pult... I never even saw that thread before. That's a good mech. Great minds think alike..!
Hi, seeing this thread made me register! I love this build - have been using something similar for a while now. (Fract is my FAVE mech!). My only issue is with the heat. I like the suggestion of the ERLLas and PPC's. Ideally I want to still keep my PPC's grouped to keep the alpha high.
I use to do this on a K2, but I like the idea of the JJ and extra 5 tons. Plus I hate the giant hit box on the Cat has for head. I came up with this for a Standard Eng Build. Mostly cause I can't afford the 325 XL right now.
Another build where I guess that ratings less than 4 or 5 are based on theory crafting and not on actually testing & playing the mech. This thing hits like a truck, has a lot of range and moves very quickly when using the XL325 / 22DHS version. It requires a certain playstyle, though, and therefore certainly isn't a mech for everyone. It's the loadout I propagandize among my unit's 3D pilots at the moment for a reason.
I've been playing this thing for a couple of weeks now and it is a beast. Sure it doesn't have the survivability of the original Sauce and Sauce 2 but it still packs a hell of a wallop. You just need to avoid brawling more and stick to the sniper role on the outskirts of your offensive line. 5/5 for me. Pound for pound this is the (current) best build for the Phract 3D because of the Gauss mess up.
I'll finish getting footage of this build for a showcase this week, I promise. This one, the dual ppc /ac10, and also streakmando have been on my docket for over a month now. I'll get started...
Ok, this is it! Doomsday, aka Soy Sauce 3.0! I finally cobbled together a few clips that are somewhat old (http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=3937.0) [the last weekend of UAC spam patch] but anyways, point is, Doomsday is finally shown off in a showcase, so, enjoy peeps. If ppl want to discuss the build etc, just post your question or concern. Here is the STD version of it, btw: And in case you missed it, here's the XL final version at the moment:
Run this build a few times, with a few modifications (already had Endo, and I did not wish to drop it) so... STND 300, 2PPC and 1ERLL. The cooling is great on it... 20 DHS and the range is wonderful. What I find is that the PPCs mounted in the shoulders allow some pretty sneaking sniping without showing yourself at all. The speed on the 300 is good enough with tweak to get in and out of scraps and the ERLL takes folks by surprise. My normal average game with my Cataphracts is around 5-600 and this one sits squarely in the middle there, but it also gives a very different look to an often overlooked robot.
So, I finally bought myself a 3D (holy cow, it's like a 1X with more ballistics and jump jets - Where has this been all my life?!?!) I really wanted to try the high alpha strike poptart that this build is. I watched the video a few times and realized two things: 1) You can fire your alpha strike three times before you have to stop. A good number, but you don't always need it - either the target is dead or has moved. 2) You don't really use the ER range of the ERPPC. Most of the action was below 600 meters. I think a spider closed within 90 meters once in the showcase. With that in mind I thought it might be possible to trade the ERPPCs down to PPCs and use the heat gained to pack a second LL. To get the weight I downgraded the engine and came up with this: *edit - fixed layout to have standard PPCs as described* Less heat capacity, same cooling efficiency. With just the basic specs done you can fire the alpha strike three times if you count to 1 between them. Once I master the mech I think three in a row will be fine. The greater alpha means you do more with the two shots you often get. Oh... and it flies a little higher. This happened on the third match out, so I think it's a winner:
