Real lurm boating options with this baby. Prime. LRM+A with a single volley. ML's for defence. you can swap 1 out for a tag if you wish.... EDIT: Slightly improved build 13/09/2013 Variant a: just because you can. Note I don't really recommend this build, unless you are in a well-formed group ( a good spotter and someone to defend you are requirements). but hey, LRM70! Variant b: LURM60+A! +2ml, swap 1 out for a tag if you wish...
Thank you Verb. You just helped me make up my mind which variant of the chassis to get now that I finished the basic on the protector.
Your first variant has both CASE and an XL engine. CASE provides no benefit in XL engines, as the engine is destroyed if the ammunition in either side torso explodes. I would therefore suggest the following modifications: Drop the CASEs for 1 ton and 2 more free crit slots Increase the engine size to 300 Max out the armour in the legs Put the heat sink out in a side torso with the 3 free crits slots you now have for some crit padding. If you hear "Heat Sink destroyed", you know that you would be dead in your original configuration. Other than that: Great build!
I like this approach. Its very similar to the loadout of my AWS-8R. Now with the Heat Penalty Rule its really difficult to maintain sustained Alpha.Volleys - Heat Production is too high. I tweaked my AWS-8R down to Triple LRM15 + two LLas and worked better. For this Mech i would try Quad LRM10 + 1x LLas: [Smurfy] or or
@Blagg Zear : What I like: LL + tag - thats kinda nice, makes me yearn for 2xLL. I'm unsure about the lrm40 though, with the lrm 50 you can play about with the firing mechanisms to adjust yourself based on your situation ( 2x15 or 2x10 or 2x15+10 or straight chain ). Don't get me wrong, I like your build ( it deserves it's own post imho), but my intention with this mech was to make it boat to the best of it's abilities. Also, I'm poor and have no mc, so I won't actually be able to run this till next tuesday :'-( I might revise my opinions then. Not I'm updating the op. to improve the first build a little.
Just tried this pup out; Pew Pew. The Tag is rarely useful in PUGs, (much less ECM cover and MUCH less coordination to an ECM bubble) so, I just dropped it. Same with the AMS - I keep myself in cover and at range so I can avoid enemy LRMs and pop out for my own salvos of missiles and get some direct LL play going. It's fun.
Yes I am risking it with the ammo. No +A but you get some defensive laser, maybe for some snipery action also.
I stuck with the LRM 40 build, but have found TAG to be more necessary the last few weeks. I've had two matches come down to just myself and a D-DC left at the end of a match, and neither time had a TAG to counter his ECM. I prefer the 15's + 5's to dual 10's as you can get all 30 missiles out at a time with the tubes available, and the 5's are nice to have if your intentions are to keep someone in cover... just so they get the incoming missile message, one tube of 5's will do that and not waste excess.
Agreed, I feel Tag is a must the last couple of days, lots of PPC Cicadas and ERLarge Ravens on the battlefield lately. Personally unless you have a cordinated lance of PPC Cicadas I have seen quite a few be taken out in seconds.... As previously mentioned running with a spotter or narc raven is probably your best bet.
