#MWO Releases the Orion Hero Mech dubbed "Protector"

Today #MWO released the long awaited Orion Battlemech.

In traditional fashion PGI has released the Hero Variant of the battlemech first; called the Protector. If you take a look at the weapons that come with the Protector you will notice something cool; this mech belonged to Aleksandr Kerensky himself!

Weapons & Equipment:

Left Arm: 1x Medium Laser
Left Torso: 1x PPC, 1x SRM4 w/ Artemis IV
Right Torso: 1x Gauss Rifle
Right Arm: 1x Medium Laser

The Protector, in Battletech Lore, is also known as the ON1-K Keresnky.

The cost for this beast is 5,625 MC for this 75 ton beast!

Notice that the words SLDF are visible on the barrels as well as very faintly on the side of the upper thigh area?

The Orion, one of my favorites finally arrives the battlefield...

 

The first 75 tonner, arguably the best balanced weight class in BT generally speaking. Speed, punch and armor all in one.

Let's see how it does in MwO, I may buy this after seeing the first cpl of days and reactions.

Edit: 5625 MC? I think I'll wait for the special on this one...and the CB versions first.

Snub-nosed PPC is right. Look at that tiny little blue light in the LT... and compare it with the massive, menacing medium lasers in the arms.

Looks like a fun mech tho!

 

Thats because the arms are meant for clobbering people when they get too close

 

Im wondering, which Variants we'll get of the Orion?

• The ON1-K is the Standard and maybe the best Variant.
• The ON1-M with Narc-Missile-Tube? Pls nooo! But seems to be realistic. :whacko:
• The ON2-M with ES+DHS, Gauss, LRM15+A, 3x MPLas could be the deluxe variant.

All the other Variants listed in http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Orion have Weapon-Systems/Technology, which are still not implemented in MWO.

 

Well, Smurphy's is showing the K,M,V and VA as the other options.

 

Really?? The V / VA is basically a K with 2x SRM instead of 1x LRM.Pod + 1x SRM. That would be really disappointing.

 

Ya the protector and the K look like the only ones worth operating unless you're big time into missiles.

 

I hope at least one of the "normal" Variants has two Ballistic slots on right Sidetorso as well. That would be awesome! The Orion is actually the second Mech able to fit two LB 10-X ACs on Torso after the Atlas.

 

Only the Protector and the V have 2 ballistics in the RT

 

If that's the case then i prefer the V Variant though i dont like Narc.Tubes..

If the trailer can be believed, the Protector can also pretty much one shot any mech out there as well. With performance like that, 5k+ MC is a bargain!
