Okay guys need your help here...
Just suckered a friend into the game and he loves it...problem is he asked ME, another newby, to come up with a starter friendly mech that suited his playstyle. He, like me is not very accurate yet and loves to get in their faces so I tried to think of a build that provided him the best chance to do good damage with the least concern for missing.
He specifically wants the JM6-S, he specifically wants a hard hitting main gun thats close range. He is not as concerned with speed...yet.
I came up with this but I am certain there is a better way to fit all that stuff in. I originally thought...AC 20 when he said he wanted to hit HARD, he emphasized that, but then I thought...lights...easy to miss...um no lets go shotgun.

LBX 10 Shotguns...even I cant miss with those things.
Med lasers...hold down the button and sweep pretty hard to miss
    Machine guns...spray and pray.
Armor slightly shifted to the front for in your face action.

Now that you see where the thought process is at please help me tweak this for him.

    Musts:
Must be this Chassis or JM6-DD
Must use VERY hard hitting ballistic as primary weapon.
    Must have decent frontal armor.
Must be able to compensate for lack of inexperience and accuracy. (consider inaccuracy when choosing ammo amount.)

The LBX10 is not a focused weapon, chances are he will percieve it as weak. I recommend you go for dual AC10's actually, they have some range and do hit hard, also shoot slightly faster which enables him to correct his aim a bit instead of hammering and missing and dying. ;)

Lemme see if I can find a good version.

Maybe this one, one of Blaggs?

You can fiddle with the amount of ammo, maybe replace with a AMS and different engine size.

It really depends if he wants to stay in that brawler mentality, or try something different. Just keep experimenting, and find what works best, and what is the most fun. If the PPC meta is the sweet spot, try that out.

BTW guys and Michael I wanted to thank you all. I rarely spend much time on forums for any of the games I play but the community that has been built on here is extraordinarily helpful and do not mind that a noob comes in spamming his ideas. I think in the long run the knowledge I gain here will be HUGE. Already my buddy is like WTF bro you have been playing for 3 days longer than I have how the hell you know all this stuff...I just wink and tell him I am just THAT good ;) of course hes buying his first mech now so I have to let him in on my secret and pass him the link.

    My mod:

yeah listen to Lan, dual AC10s + 2x MLas (+2x MGs) is one of the best builds for the JM6-S. Because of the big Torso of the Jagermechs, you shouldnt really brawl in Close Range otherwise you will be cored very fastly, if the Enemies have some heavy ballistic weapons as well. The AC10s have more Pinpoint.Damage and more safe Range than LB10-X - maybe you are lucky and your enemy has low Armor, so you can deal some Critical Damage with the Shotgun.Bullets. But if not, you need to hit much more to kill an enemy. And in that time, maybe probably you get killed first. If your friend really wants Punchpower then Dual AC10.Builds are very well balanced. What i can recommend as well for the JM6-S is the dual UAC5.Build. Now after latest patch, they really are deadly as hell and you can keep Distance. If you like them, then you might try the "Chainsaw" Build. I myself run Dual AC10 in my JM6-DD (extremely successful) and Dual UAC5s in my JM6-S... and hmm the JM6-A is the only variant, where i really fight up close with Standard Engine and QUAD SRM4, but having lower scores than the other before mentioned variants (-> getting cored faster than i can kill, Jagers should keep Distance!). GL&HF!

p.s. your friend has to train aiming, because a Mechwarrior who cant aim, is not worth to be a Mechwarrior! ;)

Great input Blagg! My reasoning for the LBX was BECAUSE of the shotgun effect. I personally am with you as I have both a double AC10 and quad AC5 build for my Cats and love them both. Went from mediocre damage to getting 700dmg and 5 kills in the first match I used it so I AGREE with you TOTALLY...BUT and like my ex-girlfriend its a BIIIIIIG but his accuracy is pretty bad right now. I think at least for a little while he will get more damage a match using the LBX over the AC10. Especially now they have buffed the spread because he will very often get SOME damage a shot with the LBX but my miss with the AC10 entirely.
Ya know what though....whats it cost to swap those LBX10 for the AC10 heh maybe 3 matches worth of cbills if it turns out he likes them better. May just do ALL the seperate builds you guys are putting here. Once he has the chassis and the engine the rest is relatively inexpensive. Then let him decide which suits him best.

or you tell him to try the "Situation Critical MKII", which i posted for our Captain. You have two LLas to constantly burn damage over distance. And if someone really close in or surprise you over the corner, you can blast him away with two shotguns. I recommend LLas as better complementary weapons to the more short.range.effective LBX. ;)

If you really like the idea of MG then do it on a DD would allow you to do 4x MG.

If you want a easy to pilot Jager then go for the 2xGauss alternative, that works extremely well.

Thanks for the input all. We are going to try your suggestions out and stick to the one that he has the best luck in.

Btw lol this wasn't meant to be a rated build as was stated in the top there are glaring problems with this build so while its 3 stars to most of you to him based on his newness and playstyle it fits best. The point of the build is close in with a MUCH easier chance of hitting due to innate poor accuracy...while I like the gauss personally its definitely NOT for someone with very poor aiming skills yet unlike the LLas or the shotgun.

As a final tip; try out different DPI settings on the mouse. It may be too high. I find 400 to be a sweet spot, but sometimes 200 or 1000 is better.

A word of warning regarding the Gauss weapon, it's about to get a nerf (hold fire to charge, release to fire, if you don't release within a few seconds then the charge is lost) so it may not be the most friendly to new players.

    Okay, update.

He bought the S and I fiddled with the Compromiser build a little and got it an extra medium laser and he is HOOKED.

First match out the gate he got 2 kills, next match 3 kills, next match 1 kill even though I took him on the worst flank ever...picture 2 lone british soldiers standing in a trench in WW1...the one bobby looks at the other, grins and says "we got em right where we want em" "CHAAARGE!" just to pop out of the trench to see the entire German army staring right at them from a dozen feet away...thats kinda how our flank went. All night it was pretty much the same, kill after kill match after match. Great work gents!

Definitely a keeper for me. I'm relatively new to MWO, and I've been playing around with top-rated builds of all sorts of mechs to try to find something that works. This is the first build that has allowed me to consistently claim high scores and a number of kills throughout matches. It runs a bit hot if you're firing everything at once for very long, but the effectiveness of it is more than worth it.

It's very good at taking off an enemy's arms, too.

Merged some of the Jager builds since they are all the same weapons load-out aside from an engine tweak.
