As a long time Apple iPhone owner (iPhone 3, 3GS and now the 4) I can say without a doubt that if this report is true then the iPhone 4 will be the last Apple product I purchase. I refuse to support a Police State backed by Corporate America. This isn't from an official news site (that I have seen yet) but from a Torrent site that I visit. Still their articles are pretty accurate so I will definitely be looking to validate this.
Man, as sad as this shit is, its even worse that its getting to the point that i don't care anymore. I've listened to NPR and Alex Jones and Art Bell for as long as I can remember. Too much doom and Gloom will ruin your life. Trust me man, I dont know what it's like in Canada, but although its worse than it should be, its not nearly as bad as people think it is. I've lived my entire life distrusting the Gov't, living the conspiracy theorist life, I am prepared for any survival situation that should happen, I live in Texas and am still hoping for a revolution but the more I gave into it, the more it ruined a lot of shit in my life. I wonder now if any of it was worth it. They can already track us down with pinpoint accuracy anywhere on the globe with most any phone/tablet or electronic device. I've personally witnessed 2 drones over my house and 1 following my truck. They DO operate in America. Simple answer: Done use a phone. We survived for quite awhile without them. If people are that scared of police, carry an actual camera or sound recording device. I'm not sure the laws in Canada but in America as long as one person knows the device is working its legal to use. The best answer to all of this: Know the Laws and your rights as a human being and the police can never touch you. A Police Officer is a public Gov't official and as such, when on duty, we can film him as much or as often as we like, regardless of what he says. He legally cannot make us turn our phones off except under very few drastic situations. Its the same damn reason Hollywood stars never catch a brake. Its not illegal to film shit when in public. Even if this should actually go through, i would bet that it is rarely ever implemented if at all. It might not be cheap to do this. On a spiritual note, If you believe in fate or destiny, all of this is irrelevant anyways. What was meant to happen is going to happen.
Use an android phone with CSM or other customized OS. Or just use an imported phone. I never trusted apple anyways.
In Canada, police have no legal right to take people's cameras or delete data unless they're obstructing justice, or it's a sensitive defense installation or some such... google it, and you'll get more information than I could ever put here. There are very serious consequences for the officers who do violate this right, apparently. I don't see switching phone types being a very longterm solution: someone will just make software to turn off every other kind of device (and if a layman like me can come up with that idea, it's probably already been done by somebody). This seems more like a growing pain due to increasingly cheap and available technology. We're familiar with the concept of drones for military use, but frankly I'm very surprised that news agencies are not using them in very aggressive recording roles. That could be way more problematic for police than some bystanders with cellphones.
The thing is, a modded system on your phone can easily override such programs to stop external override, at least when it comes to android which is easily rooted. Apple is a really closed system where you cannot change their things easily.
I've been thinking of switching from Apple for a while now actually. My ex gf has a 4S and so that is why I kept it so that we could FaceTime etc. when we weren't nearby each other but now that that is done I have no real tie keeping me to the iPhone. I do have some paid apps that would suck not to have anymore but meh, the Galaxy S4 looks so sexy.
I hate to say it but Android sucks as well. I just owned the Atrix HD, sold it, then bought the Galaxy S4 Active. Supposed to be damn near invincible right? wrong...i sold that one to. Now im back to the Iphone 4s. The only real reason to get an android i've found over the past 2 years, is if you spend massive amounts of time on your phone and you need top-notch customization abilities. It's like the difference between having a solid gaming comp, but then having that 3-screen, radiator cooled, $7k dollar computer for animations and graphics rendering. Sure its cool, but if you dont need all that...they cost quite a bit. If you are just an average phone user...the androids are a lot of phone with a decent learning curve. The real reason I sold the Galaxy active is because the air gestures would never fully turn off and wouldnt allow for any type of texting or keyboard typing. It always thought i wanted it to do something extravagant. I just wanted to text my wife damnit...
Hahahah aren't we all business movers and shakers? I must be in touch with the universe 24/7 at lightning speeds with full customization. At least this is what I tell myself. Hrmmmmmmmm, well I've had my iPhone 4 (the same phone) for like 4 years now (this October). I figure it might be time to treat myself LOL
