You know it's inevitable. Are you for or against a major Hollywood production? If you are for it, then answer these questions: 1) Who should star in it? 2) What Mech does he drive? 3) What's the storyline? 4) Is there a lovestory? Is it unrequited, or does the male lead get to spend his A/C ammo? 5) Most importantly, does he prefer energy weapons, ballistics, or missiles? If you are against, I want to hear why - for example: "While literally hundreds of people worldwide would want to see a film like this, and several dozen would be willing to pay to do so, I just don't think that Hollywood can manage to respect the lore. Plus, with Transformers and Iron Man already in their sequels, is there really a latent interest in more big robots?" I can't wait to hear all of your fruity answers.
My brother and I have a simple movie rating system. One star for each of the following in a film: - Big robots or lizards - Hot chicks - nuclear explosions - six-shooters - Set in space - F-22s - post-apocalyptic environment Minus 2 stars for each of the following: - zombies / walking dead - dead children - unneccessary gore (ie bloodletting that does not tie in to the moral of the story) We have had to strap on quite a number of barstools over the years to come up with this system, but I think we have settled movie rankings for good and all.
1) Who should star in it? Tom Cruise 2) What Mech does he drive? Locust 3) What's the storyline? Tom Cruise Pilots a Locust and gets Killed, the end. 4) Is there a lovestory? Is it unrequited, or does the male lead get to spend his A/C ammo? Yes, Tom Cruise loves his Locust, which ultimately betrays him by boiling him alive in coolant. 5) Most importantly, does he prefer energy weapons, ballistics, or missiles? Tom Cruise doesn't know how to pilot a mech, so he presses all the buttons like a girl playing streetfighter.
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=99333 Looks like Robotech might be getting it's own movie before MechWarrior LOL
Nah, that's def Robotech. I look forward to Pacific Rim, but, Robotech would be a fun movie too. So long as they don't screw it up and turn it into some sort of love story like they did Transformers. I'll admit I enjoyed all 3 movies, but that's because my kid-side was like "FUCK YEA TRANSFORMERS LOOK GIANT ROBOTS SMASHING FACES HELL YEA!!!" As for the plot, I was much less interested. Now we just need them to be successful with Pacific Rim and Robotech and maybe the fanbase for Mechwarrior can coerce Hollywood to pick up an do a Mechwarrior movie to make them some cash, lol.
Yeah, but the very first Transformers movies was pretty edgy (I mean the cartoon). Still, great animation, voice acting, special effects, and yes, even ass, does not trump the "FUCK YEA TRANSFORMERS LOOK GIANT ROBOTS SMASHING FACES HELL YEA!!!" moments in our lives.
1) Who should star in it? Honestly, I'd like to see some talented nobodies starring in a film like this. Might as well launch a new career. If that fails, someone who is famous for driving in action movies, like Jason Statham or Vin Diesel would be a good pick. 2) What Mech does he drive? I think the star should drive Mad Cat. It is pretty much the iconic mech in the games. 3) What's the storyline? I'm not familiar enough with MW lore to answer this question. 4) Is there a lovestory? Is it unrequited, or does the male lead get to spend his A/C ammo? Yes, with either Uma Thurman (?spelling?) or Milla Jovovich (again, ?spelling?) playing the female lead. They will be a pilot as well. She will be feared dead just before the final act, which will cause the main character to go on a rampage and decimate the enemy forces. At the end, she is found alive, and well...A/C ammo depleted. 5) Most importantly, does he prefer energy weapons, ballistics, or missiles? I think the more important thing is that whatever he prefers, he has to use something else in order to win the final battle. So... If he likes ballistics, he runs out of ammo before that Dire Wolf comes around the corner. If he likes missiles, his targeting system gets damaged by the Kodiak before he can get a good shot, and he has to finish the battle with his lasers. If he likes energy weapons, his coolant tanks are breached, and he must rely on cooler-running ballistics and missiles (but the final burst is with his lasers before he ejects from his self-destructing mech).
My very first idea when reading the topic and OP was the story of the Gray Death Legion. It's very suitable to introduce both the 302x scenery and setup, includes a nice and hero-focussed story and offers potential sequels. Bonus: chicks possible.
That's a great rating system but gore can be a trademark (look at some Tarantino movies for example) without being a downside. Of course gore for the sake of gore is worthless (that's why I hate Saw). I'm pretty much for it. 1) Dunno. I would love to see Tom Cruise being crushed in his blowing mech tho. Maybe charismatic actors, it's more about piloting than running under fire (thinking of it, a pilot running out of his mech to steal an ennemy one could be GREAT) 2) Medium or light ? Jack of all trades. 3) Errrr.. Joker ! And Batman. 4) Of course, every freaking movie has a lovestory, unfortunately. 5) Ballistics / srm, more interresting to see that on screen I guess.
Seriously, no. I mean NO! As in NO F***IN' WAY JOSE!!! Why? Because It would star some bratty child (Anagin Skydancer) or narcistic teenager who can replace years of training by being such natural genius creatures that they expand the abilities of their sentient Mech by sheer willpower, blowing up all the enemy force singlehandedly. Yuck! You want good mech warrior action ? Make it a TV franchise, like "Above and beyond", Star Gate, or ofc Star Trek. That way we'd have some time to actually develop the characters and the backstory.
