Primary Configuration This isn't anything to new or surprising, but I have had uncanny success with this build! Piloting nothing but Commandos since I started, this build (and similar ones to it for the other variants) have let me consistently put down anywhere from 150 to 700 damage a round and achieve a KDR over 1. But like all things, it is just a build and knowing how to pilot your mech goes a long way. This build is ~7,700,000 cbills to make. Kind of pricy but worth it. -Without DHS, you can use SHS for something still pretty heat efficient. ~1.25 I think. -Armor Layout can be adjusted to individual play styles. Alternate Configuration A Alt Configuration A simply does a little tweaking to add a Medium Laser Now, with taking the time to Elite out the Commando Mechs, this thing can run up to 146.3 KPH which is plenty fast to run away from most mechs in a hurry, Jenners of course being the exception. And since it is a commando it gets the benefit of it's smaller hit box. The armor is balanced because of how I use this mech. A lot of hit and run tactics. Scanning targets for weaker ones or going to chase a light that is harassing one of my teams bigger Mechs. This means that potentially, 50% of the time I am running into a dangerous area and then 50% of the time I am running out of one. As many people have pointed out, the Commando is fragile! AVOID DEATH CIRCLES! Even if you live after one of these, more then likely you are going to be damaged to the point that a snowflake could end you. And as always, use cover to avoid LRM barrages and weave when running away from enemy fire. People have a hard time aiming at small targets, make it a little bit more difficult for them. All in all, I greatly enjoy this build and have had many a good fight. I hope this helps. Also, feel free to add me as a friend. MWO name is Erwin R0mmel -Edit- Alternate Configuration B (ECM) Since ECM has been out, I have meant to update this a bit for anyone looking to make this build. The difference is that I dropped the Laser for the ECM. Not to much different other then that.
I tried this build with an XL195 Engine, but I can't get it to work with DHS. Did something change regarding the slots required or available? does the XL210 take less heat sinks? Where is info about engine heat sinks? To be clear, before upgrading to the DHS I was having a ball with this build! Thunder
Actually , yes! It goes by increments of 25 so lets say there actually was a STD 25 engine. It would hold 1 heat sink. 50 would hold 2 and 75 3. So on and so on with all the ones in between rounding down to the nearest 25. Here is a great site for a lot of Mech Info and weapons and items and a mech lab! http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
Your build has a flaw. You can't mount laser on it, if you stick with 2 tons of ssrm ammo. check you smurfy link, you'll see you haven't added MLas.
What's the difference between the basic configuration here and Configuration B? I'm trying to figure out how to make it work with a 210 XL, ECM, 3 Streaks, and a ML. Am I living a pipe dream?
You can't do max armor + 3x SSRM + 1x MLAS + ECM with a XL210. An XL200 will get you your 3x SSRM + 1x MLAS + ECM if you sacrifice armor to 160, but it has to be standard armor or you'll run out of crit spaces. To gain back the crit spaces, you can run standard HS, but then your heat efficiency goes down the toilet. It's an engine/heatsink/weight issue with the COM chassis you have to work around.
This is what you are talking about right? I used to run this. Was playing around with this also way back. Interesting all out half streak-cat.
Yes, exactly. I've run your first build in the past because I was fixated on having a medium laser on my COM-2D for a while. My current 2D is your first build, but a small laser and maxed armor. I like your second build with the TAG, and may have to try it out. I have both the XL200 and XL210 engines and they both require 2 external HS. An XL195 requires 3 external HS, so you'll only actually gain a 1/2 a ton out of dropping from a XL200 to an XL195. If you're OK with the XL195 engine's drop in speed, you can squeeze in that MLAS while maintaining maxed armor. I personally would rather have the extra speed, but that's me.
