I feel weird about this, but somehow my Wang is my best mech by a factor of two or three. This is especially confusing because sometimes when I have been drinking too much I like to log in on him and make really awful Wang jokes that may or may not violate the MWO TOS. One you get used to it the AC/20 can act like a sort of scalpel, you find the weak points and cut away. It is a shame that the chassis is so narrow in design, the only major decisions are whether or not to run XL and what to do with the last few tons. The more I play him the more that last bit of weight goes into ac/20 ammo.
For me it's Heavy Metal and the Ilya. I also do love my Flame, but the weaknesses of the chassis can be felt even with several hundred games under the belt with Dragons. The Wang is cool, but I only use him when teaming up with at least another one controlled by a mate nowadays. For those voting the Dragon Slayer - as much as I like the VTRs, isn't this just a 9K with a different hardpoint distribution making it sightly better for sniping? I am also looking forward for the Firebrand going on sale. For me it isn't about the 6 energy hardpoints here, but for the arm mounted energy hardpoints. Also - where's my Spider hero?
The dragon slayer can hold a larger engine topping out at 89.1 kmh with speed tweak, has a badass paint job, one more ballistic hardpoint slot( the 9K can only has 1 in the arm, the DS has 2), and has a better name when people see it on their HuD. The DS also comes with an expensive XL 330, endo-steel and DHS, where the 9K only has a STD 320, regular heatsinks, but also has endo. And yes the sniping lasers are very nice because now i can be more liberal in using my left arm as a shield. The DS is also the only victor that can place his energy hard points that high.
Don't feel weird, the Wang is a beautiful mech and I love it too. Like you said it does not give a lot of options, but if you're into heavy ballistics (AC/20 or double UAC/5) it's an awesome machine.
Geez, I just wish you guys would stop talking about your wangs. There's already enough macho bs without discussing this too. Next someone is going to start saying theirs is bigger. Oh, but that's not it....some one (probably a spider pilot) is going to say size doesn't matter, it's how you drive it....But, please go on. As to the Dragon Slayer. It is not my favorite Victor, I actually prefer weapons in the arms like the K. However this thread was about Hero Mechs, so...
rofl, I see what you did there. I have three and don't pilot them often. I'm currently piloting Victors
Love my Ilya (Murry) and Firebrand, but I do have to say survivability in Murry is better when you get in a bind... it really chews up mechs too. ILYA MUROMETS FIREBRAND FIREBRAND
Anyone tell me in yen lo wang is worth? i love me centurion (a) and the skin is just beautiful enough... but i need to know just how the gameplay of it is....
Even though I died (I got overly aggressive) the Ilya is simply a damage dealing death machine now. Hell this is River City NIGHT and I still managed over 1000 damage. PRO TIP: Do NOT waste ammo at 600+ meters out. Sure it will damage them but you can do 1125 damage, assuming you hit for 5 damage and every shot registers, with the ammo your Chainsaw carries. Add the MLas into the mix and you can do 1200 damage matches. Don't suffer from diminishing damage returns on the UAC5 unless you have no choice. Even if you only deal 200-300 damage (and that is on an extremely bad match) you can spray the top of a ridge line and lay down suppression fire. They definitely duck down behind cover. I held off 3-4 mechs behind a ridge line myself with the 3x UAC5s of the chainsaw going on Alpine Peaks tonight in addition to several 800+ damage games and this 1000+ damage match. Oh, and if you are wondering if the Ilya can carry its weight in kills? http://i40.tinypic.com/10glms7.jpg[/img] Yes.
Can't agree more Michael! For kicks, me and two lancemates rolled in two Ilyas (chainsaw) and one Jaeger with three UAC5's on Terra Therma last night. We got to the volcano first and the slaughter commenced. Nine UAC's focus firing on any mech that stepped up, Ye gods, the destruction power! We laid waste to four mechs inside that crater and they barely got off a accurate shot at us. We then proceeded outside and slaughtered another few, I think just two but can't be sure. It was murder, plain and simple.
The two most worthwhile (IMO) are probably the Dragonslayer and the X5. The Dragonslayer is an assault that can run like a medium - and it's very effective with a variety of different builds. Just a great all around mech. It's fairly forgiving and can carry a match with no problem and if you get bored with one loadout, you can change it to a completely different build and it'll still be effective. The X5 - it's everything you wouldn't expect in a mech that looks like a light and only carries 40 tons. It's very fast (and takes a surprisingly good punch). It's also fully-loaded straight out of the gates. It has FF, ES, DHS - and an XL engine that'll put you near the speed cap. The only change I've made on mine was scrapping one ton of ammo for a 14th heat sink... It will rip up enemy light mechs. It will decimate heavier ones too in 1v1 scenarios. If you catch anything isolated, there's really nothing that's off the menu for this little guy. Hands down one of my favorite mechs...
