The first Mechwarrior game i ever played was MW2 in 1995 on my first PC, a 386, DOS. It was a great experience though there were other games with better gfx (like Descent). I really loved the game. Somewhere in my cellar there are still the original game package with the thick manual and the original CDs.. ow i also bought the addon GBL. Great, epic, awesome. A Kodiak was so fearsome! Now when i remember its already 18yrs ago.. damn am i old now. But when i play MWO i can feel again like a true Mechwarrior ready to fight & die in honor. Just like in old times.. hmmm...are we not counting the mech assault games? are they considered spin-offs? But my first memories of MW wasnt in games. It was in books and, at the time, my father used to own a Comic/toy shop and we would play the MW clickz game.
I first saw the original MW being played at a friends computer and thought it looked so awesome, back in 1990 I believe. To a 15 year old, it probably was. Then. First I played was actually MW but only some years later and already a "old thing", the real deal was MW2 of course and I played it insanely much. Still recall the box but I think it's gone now in a cellar waterleak event. The computer is still in storage tho, heh.
The first 'mech game I played was Mechwarrior 2. Before that, I vaguely remember seeing an isometric game involving a Timber Wolf.
I started from MechWarrior 2, did pick up MW1 sometime later though, waaaaay later. Never liked the Robotech series, or more like I used to HATE IT BIG TIME when I was a child. Simple reason being I spent my childhood in asia, grew up watching Macross (This is good, on par with gundam), Orguss (OMG guy in a dress) Dougram (nice in it's own way) and other cool stuff. Robotech is confusing to me because of that, and insulting to the Macross series (at least I think so when I was young, for now it is meh). Haven't seen the Battletech anime for that reason, was thinking that it was another rape on anime. EDIT: Seems cool actually, logic optional, Old School!!! My enjoyment of Mech comes from tabletop and mechwarrior games. And FYI, yes I still enjoy the new Macross series and things, and old school UC series gundam. (not the Seed crap since the second season Seed D is basically the director/scriptwright circle jerking. Yes they are couples and they did admit to that once.)
Did you know, that development of Mechwarrior 2 already started in 1992 and should look totally different? http://www.localditch.com/mechwarrior/mech2/clans.html
Did you know MP: Battletech 3025 - Predecessor of MWO ? http://www.localditch.com/mechwarrior/mpbt/index.html
I believe it's one of the Clan mechs-it has some aesthetic qualities that remind me of them. I actually have every single Technical Readout book from TT Battletech, except for the new, post-Jihad ones. Give me a bit and I think I can find it.
SUCCESS! I HAVE FOUND THE BATTLEMECH! It's actually an 80-ton Inner Sphere Mech called the LGC-01 Legacy; it can be found in the Technical Readout 3067 book. Here's a list of its standard loadout; Engine-STD240 Armor-15.5 tons STD Heat Sinks-10 DHS JJ-3 WEAPONS; RA-2x ER Medium Lasers LA-1x ER Small Laser RT-1x Ultra Autocannon/10, 1x Streak SRM4, 2 tons of UAC ammo, 1 ton of Streak ammo, CASE LT-1x Ultra Autocannon/10, 2 tons of UAC ammo, C3I Computer, CASE CT-1x JJ RL-1x JJ LL-1x JJ All in all, a very brutal, efficient Assault Battlemech, with very good sniping capabilities from those top-mounted UACS; even more so if you strip out some of the bonus stuff like the C3I
dear lord that thing is a beast! I NEEDS it! He will be mine, and i will name him King Kong
Indeed, this thing is fantastically powerful. If I stripped out the C3I, the CASE, and a JJ, I'd upgrade the engine to a 320 XL, add a couple more DHS, and replace the LA ERSLas with 2x ERMLas. I'd use any remaining space for more DHS, maybe another SSRM4 and a BAP. Like I said, I have every single Technical Readout book except for the post-Jihad stuff, so if you want, I can post some more cool mechs here or elsewhere.
yes plss.. do you have illustrations of similar powerful mechs? would love to see them BTW: ----> http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Legacy
Sure thing, Blagg-you'll have to give me a bit to work it out; the new adobe reader makes it irritating to copy and save images, but I'll put out a few others over the next couple days.
i want that BEAST in MWO! I want to pilot that Damn f***ing Machine!
Unfortunately for us, that's unlikely-according to canon, the Legacy didn't even start prototyping until 3063, as I recall. If you want to re-create it however, MWO could add the MAL-1R Mauler from the 3050 Technical Readout to MWO. The Mauler is a 90-ton Inner Sphere mech from the Draconis Combine that, among other things, has 4 ballistic hardpoints in the torso, two in the RT and two in the LT. These are mounted lower in the torso than the Legacy's hardpoints, and the stock Mauler uses 4x AC/2s, but with the current rules you could mount 4x AC5/s or 4x UAC/5s and make a sort of Neo-Legacy on a Mauler Chassis and get a similar effect The first truly effective Mauler version was produced in 3048, so if we pressure them, MWO has no basis for refusing this mech, especially since it's sufficiently different from other current assaults to justify its inclusion.
