The recent nerf to Large Lasers is edging me out of my favorite 3D build. So, I've mashed together a few concepts and put an oversized engine into it.

An alternative build. More cooling, smaller engine, .5 tons less armor.

If you really like standard engines, you can just barely fit a STD 300 into it, but you have to strip out 2 JJ and AMS.

Personally, I like the second version the best. I think I would rip out 2 JJs for an extra 2 DHS though. I know a cooling efficiency around ~35% is generally considered pretty decent, but I think it depends on the weapons loadout. With all energy weapons I think the extra heat sinks would be a better option. I find I can get around pretty well on 2 JJs in the 3D. Just my personal preference though.

2x LL and 2x PPC is a project I've been working on for several months

I will post when it's ready

Now that quad PPC equals suicide this is one of the builds I am strongly locking into. Poptart capabilities pared with very respectable medium and short range firepower.

Ok lil update - the best build for this wep setup/concept is ready, I've finished it, but the showcase is not. That's where I'm at right now with this.

I have the correct variant for this setup; I created it this past week while on vacation on smurfy and since I've been back I have been getting my unit to run through it some and so far all responses are overwhelmingly positive.

I'm busy recording footage to showcase the build at the moment when I post it here, so, sit tight til the weekend. It is different than the OP's tax dodger in some respects, to how you approach the playstyle of the wep loadout, the one I have is a more competitive build but less exciting. ;)

Well, while we're waiting for Soy's latest build with bated breath (no sarcasm intended)...

Machine guns anyone? Personally, I like them on this weapon set up. Gives you something to mix in with the Large Lasers at point-blank, and since this is less of a pop-tart/sniper build they give you some nice crit-seeking in the brawl. They also make good light repellent I've found. Moreover, zero heat.

Lose AMS and 0.5 tons armour for an extra 2 DHS if preferred.

I tried running this build as well and I've found it extremely difficult to operate in the traditonal 3D Sniper role. This certainly isn't a quick hip-shot sniper because of the Time on Target for the LLas. It is a nice build for ground pounding.

I finally picked up a 3D over the weekend and have been trying out a number of builds, and I've been flipping between this build, and the 2xUAC5+4xML build.

Works pretty well with the PPC for sniping, and the LL's for anything that comes inside the PPC minimum range, though there's always that sense of pride which quickly fades to disappointment when you hit a light with both PPC's only to realize a second later that you didn't do any damage since they were at point blank range. Gonna try the same build using ERPPCs to see if I can handle the heat.

I think that this is the best version.

I'm going to be running this variant tonight inspired from this post and "The Destroyer." It really seems like heat dissipation is key for this mech so I'm going to strip out the endo and have a go at it. If it goes well, I may save up for that XL325 and "upgrade" to The Destroyer after this.

The XL325 is a helluva engine. It's makes everything from 50~75 tons feel down-right breezy.
