So i was looking through all the purchasable mechs and noticed none of them have the same hardpoints as the 2H. This lead me to wondering what combinations i could make on this guy. So far ive come up with a triple a/c 2 with 4 tons of ammo, an ERPPC, endo-steel and double sinks with an XL 280 engine. Basically an almost 90 kmh dakka before speed tweak. As i was messing with this guy on paper i quickly noticed that this model at least has a lot of viable options. the 304 armor rating on the main website weighs in at 14.5 tons if anyone gets curious of doing the same.
Holy balls, it looks amazing. I'm going to pack 2xSRM4 and 1xSRM2 into that puppy! And it has a shield arm, nice. ... Actually, this makes my poor Hunchie utterly obsolete.
With such weaponry you'll need heatsinks or you're gonna cook. Triple AC/2 seams a good primary weapon on this mech, but I'm sure the PPC will be too much. But why not double AC/5 + PPC.
I definitely don't think this is going to obsolete your hunchies - or the CN9s for that matter. The SHD looks to me to be best suited as more of a mid-range/long-range striker/flanker. More like the CN9-D... The base 275 engine is 3 tons heavier to run at 81/89 kph than the 250 you'd need in a 50 ton mech. That's going to pretty much negate the 5 extra tons you have to play with, unless you run an XL. And running an XL means no AC20 for sure... The build I keep tossing around in my head is one that I've been working through using my CN9-D as a template. I can fit in an AC5, LL, SRM10 combo with around 320ish armor/XL315/1JJ and still crank out a 5+ sustained DPS, 50%+ heat efficiency build. The "alpha" strike damage isn't that great (29)- but it's solid for a mech that's running an XL engine and really shouldn't be (and doesn't have to be) fighting at CQ all the time.
i actually seriosuly considered it, but i wanted a build that wasnt quite so common. Theres only 1 dragon that can pull of a trip a/c 2. personally, idc so much about the PPC, i can downgrade that to a large laser or whatever. This particular mech just has a very unique hardpoint load out so i figured it would have some pretty awesome not-so-common builds.
I totally second you on this, and I'll build mine with a triple AC/2 too. I had a dragon, I didn't like it because of poor weapon position (always hit the ground) and I'm happy I can do a similar loadout on the Shadow Hawk.
I was considering putting 2x AC/5, a large laser and 3x streaks w/ BAP. If it can be pulled off, that along with JJ's and decent speed could make for a good light hunter/skirmisher that can still fend for itself in a team fight. Still debating the ballistics on it, but I know that I don't like AC/2's or AC/20's, so those are out. Thoughts?
for a long time i thought i didnt like ballistics on fast mechs due to a harder time of hitting people than with energy weapons. The trick is to get behind them or to the sides so you can get a few clean shots off before moving to the next target. From my experience, if you want the killing blows, use ballistic weapons or PPCs. Too many times have a I done like 2938572052 damage to a mech with large/medium lasers just to have a guy with 1 a/c 20 or 10 take 1 shot and get the final hit. I foresee this mech being a light hunter, hit and run mech. With his ballistics on top of his shoulder he will have no problem shooting over crap, has the JJ to handle these new level angles, and un-like the centurion-D, he has that extra 5 tons of loadout to be fast AND have a pretty good weapon layout. Very durable, capable build. Something similar to your build is what I would run for an all-around purpose build. I prefer LRMS over any type of SRM/SSRM, but if you should use SSRM make sure you have BAP for the ECM lights you will be hunting or your missiles are just dead weight or turn them into SRM 4s.
Exactly. I never run streaks (or LRM's for that matter) without putting BAP onto the mech as well for just the purpose of scaring off lights. If I end up trying an LRM with this build I might go for the LRM10 and drop half a ton of armor and the streaks. Probably not, though, as one large laser and 2x AC/5 feels a little underwhelming for brawl ranges to me.
We won't know about the viability of XLs until this guy comes out, so I'm going to wait and see before deciding on a build to use. Hopefully the side torsos aren't gigantic. The only thing that I may go with in any case is triple streaks with a BAP.
hi guys, that's my fit: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=50001&l=602589aee84502774f8b3b31f0f349e3c03f5f37
WAY too slow for a medium mech imo. My stalker will cruise past you and dish out more damage at the same time. Speed aside, its a pretty legit build especially with the new SRM buff. Personally i'd try to find a way to find more a/c 20 ammo though. maybe lose the SRM 2.
After the last patch, 3xAC/2 are going to be impossible to use heat-wise. Already spent the cash to pre-order. Not cool... Damn them for sneaking in a AC/2 heat penalty without telling us. It triggers heat penalty as alpha after 2xAC/2s. Just ran some testing on a Jager with 3xAC/2 and it was painful.
You're right. They didn't mention it. That's why I said "Damn them for sneaking in a AC/2 heat penalty." It's there. Try firing off AC/2s. It's there. There are plenty of conversations about this on other forums as well. The AC/2 got nerfed because it was a high-DPS weapon that you could carry 4 or even 6 of if you wanted. However, that made builds carrying 3 suffer. Takes away the macro for AC/2s or assigning different groups and firing quickly.
That is my one. Not to slow, with more armor, and nice firepower. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=50001&l=4d344e70afbe27e451596c1d16f1bf09dd7bcef5
Seriously considering a LBX-10 and a pair of MGs, paired with a bunch of SRMs and a LPLAS, what a evil package that'd be.
