Hi all gurus out there, im new to this game and after some forum lurking I still have some questions...

    Here we go:

    a) Does the placement of the HS matters (ex: will a HS on the same arm as a laser help more when using that laser) ?

    b) Is there any armor penetration formula in this game? ex: is 1 shoot with damage 20 better than 2 shoots with damage 10 (assuming both shoots hit the same spot).

    c) That Artemis thingie.. where can I buy it... ist a weapon, modul, upgrade or what?

    d) My performance in battle seems to have little impact on my earnings (other than winning/loosing) ... or do I simply sux?

    e) When using TAG, will I earn xp/cred when team-mates hit the tagged target?

    f) Do ER PCC have the same min 90 restriction as the standard PCC?

    g) Whats the point of the CPLT-K2 since one can get a C1/C4 and put the PCC (on a better spot) on that one and still have all options available for later...and have the jump-pack ability..?
(personally think that with the current customizing freedom in the mechlab alot of the mech-variants are pointless)

    h) Do machine guns do any damage at all or are they just tickling my enemy?

    Thanks in advance // Fonus

    a) To my knowledge no, but there are two factors to consider
-HS in destroyed parts obviously stop working. If you have HS in left arm and it gets blown of, you lose heat capability
-HS in legs might work better when standing in water. Or so I've heard.

b)Not to my knowledge, but it's just bit more difficult to hit the same spot with 2 10 dam hits.

    c) haven't entered the game since patch, so dunno

d)The game dissects your earnings and you get bonus for capping, destroyed parts and kills. If you see only the win/loss as your earning, keep training.

    e) To my knowlege, no, all though it does help you team win and so effect your income.

    f) Edit: Can't say for sure, but in any case ER weapons just too hot to be used effectively right now.

    g) gauss rifle, or two.

    h) machine guns(in theory) should be used when the enemy no longer has armor, but they're pretty much useless as it stands now.

    Morning!

    a) Does the placement of the HS matters (ex: will a HS on the same arm as a laser help more when using that laser) ?

No, it does not. Heatsinks and heat dissipation are cumulative and not compartmentalized. The only "placement" of heat sinks that could possibly benifit you are if you place them in the legs and this only works if you are buried leg deep in water. Environmental affects are projected to be part of the game mechanic.

    b) Is there any armor penetration formula in this game? ex: is 1 shoot with damage 20 better than 2 shoots with damage 10 (assuming both shoots hit the same spot).

Yes and no. It really depends on what your role is. If you are a sniper then you want to be able to 1 shot your enemies as much as possible. If you are indirect fire support (missile boat) then any hit contributes to the death of the enemy but by using Artemis you can reduce the area of impact.

    However....

Doing one shot is great on a fresh enemy mech because all the damage is focused on one area right? Hopefully killing them faster as the damaged is focused to 1 hit location. Crit seeking is something for more advanced pilots who want to play with their enemy by blowing off limbs or destroying specific components to neuter a mech and then leave them.

Ideally you want to pour as much damage on a single area as possible.

    c) That Artemis thingie.. where can I buy it... ist a weapon, modul, upgrade or what?

In MechWarrior Online you can purchase the Artemis in the mech lab, like every other component. Artemis works exactly like it is supposed to; it helps focus the spread of your missile by roughly (insert dev number here) %. It is an upgrade to a weapon and each launcher must have it's own. As far as I am aware it fits in the critical slots just like any other weapon/item and takes up critical space and tonnage. I haven't used it yet so am not for sure for sure.

    d) My performance in battle seems to have little impact on my earnings (other than winning/loosing) ... or do I simply sux?

You aren't the only person who has noticed this. The only real thing that affects your earning potential is the overall damage or destruction your mech has suffered and which items were destroyed. Cost of the item being a major factor in some peoples planning out their mech builds. I have had rounds where I have gone with 5 kills and not earned more than around 290,000 and I've had rounds where I've gone 0 kills and still earned around 250,000 for a win.

    e) When using TAG, will I earn xp/cred when team-mates hit the tagged target?

As has been stated I do not think you get "TAG POINTS" for your XP. You will probably get scouting points as you are running around doing all the "lazing of the target" type actions. It DOES help your team win so that will help your XP/CRED earnings per match and if you do a little bit of damage while lazing you will also get an assist with assist XP on the kill.

    f) Do ER PCC have the same min 90 restriction as the standard PPC?

Unfortuntaely I can't answer this question as none of the mechs I have (yet) used utilize the PPC. I would imagine that the minimum would be the same just the maximum is extended. ER being Extended Range and all. In my opinion it would be extremely silly to simply shift the ranges over on the same weapon but then again this is a crazy world we live in. Test it out in game!

    g) Whats the point of the CPLT-K2 since one can get a C1/C4 and put the PPC (on a better spot) on that one and still have all options available for later...and have the jump-pack ability..?

Yes, there are some variats that are pointless but they are considered canon and so left in the game. the K2 does allow people to make the Gauss-a-pult while some of the other Catapult variants allow people to build the Streak-a-pult etc. These are two very popular builds with Mechwarriors this month and will probably remain so until ECM comes out. It takes a good deal of skill to operate a Gauss-a-pult but it takes very little skill to operate a streak-a-pult.

Some people don't need jump jets. Why waste tons that you aren't going to use? So they find variants that don't have them and then they can maximize the used tonnage for weapons or equipment etc.

It all comes down to personal preference.

    h) Do machine guns do any damage at all or are they just tickling my enemy?

Depends on what you want to use them for. If you are wanting to just run around with machine guns and spray the enemy with lead then probably they won't be as effective as you'd like. But if you notice an enemy as a black limb or area on the paperdoll then light him up and start crit seeking.

Machine guns have a super fast rate of fire compared to other MWO weapons right? While their damage is minimal you can cover an entire mech in fire and any exposed internals are subject to that fire. Blow up an internal "critical" slot and that area becomes useless. This is what is known as crit seeking.

Thanks for all answers but i might need some follow up on the damage system, what will happen if:

    Leg with armor 25 is hit by 1 x AC20 (dmg 1x20).
Leg with armor 25 is hit by by 2 x AC10 (dmg 2x10).

    Leg with armor 5 is hit by 1 x AC20 (dmg 1x20).
Leg with armor 5 is hit by by 2 x AC10 (dmg 2x10). (plz notice that second shoot is hitting something without armor..right?)

They do make for a great psyche weapon. While they may not do much damage, they may annoy your opponent enough to disrupt their concentration while they are engaged in trying to down an enemy 'Mech. They make for great harrassers. "Psychological warfare employs any weapon to influence the mind of the enemy. The weapons are psychological only in the effect they produce and not because of the weapons themselves." ----- United States Joint Chief of Staff

My second mech was the CPLT-K2 that came equipped with 2 machine-guns, after some games with continuous shooting (atleast its heasy to hit with) on light mech circling me I gave it up...

That tactic may not work well with Assault and Heavy mechs, as yes, the smaller, faster mechs will still get the best of you. But employ these on a light, (ie. Commando) and harrass the larger mechs that can't turn around too fast with circle strafes, and you got yourself a viable tool. I like to call them "ankle biters"!

This is the big thing about the ERPPC and why you are more likely to see them than the PPC. ERPPC has better range, no minimum range at the cost of weight and heat.
