Any suggestions for favorite Nightstar builds? I'm on a quest to get at least one variant of every mech purchased and skilled up. I need to get a Nightstar. What are the most fun/effective/unique Nightstar builds you've run or seen run effectively? I'm looking at: _ or _ or _ But please for those of you that have Nightstars and build them/played them, please post your favorite Nightstars:
Here's my 2 favorite https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9s-ace-2xlbx10-2xlpl-2xml-le325.14840/ https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9p-30-pellets-2xlb10x-2xlbx5-2xml-std290.15014/
The -9P dakka variant is probably the best one... for a Nighstar... It has a large range of viable builds: 2AC20 2LL “Boomstar”: https://mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9p-“boomstar”-2ac20-2ll-lfe340.15582/ This is my preferred build, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best. In-your-face style. 3LB10X 1LPL “Schlieffen Plan”: https://mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9p-“the-schlieffen-plan”-3lb10x-1lpl-lfe340.15551/ Easy to play, max engine, asymmetric build. 2AC10 2LPL “Nice 40”: https://mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9p-nice-40-2xlpl-2xac10-le325.14174/ Good mid-range build, easy to play. 4UAC5 “Ultra Infinite”: https://mechspecs.com/threads/nsr-9p-ultra-infinite-4xuac5-le325.14476/ My version squeezed in 2MLs for when the UACs start to jam - I don’t remember the exact build so I’ll have to check it in game. Very effective if you can play to the strengths of UACs - triple and quadruple jams WILL HAPPEN.
Interesting.. I may give the 4xUAC5 build a whirl... I as yet don't have any quad UAC5 assault builds, I'll see how the Nightstar runs it!
TL;DR version: don't bother unless you really love the mech or want to try hard. NSR-9S "Nein Strike" (2xGauss, 3xERLL, TC1, LE300) was the only build I've ever bought and tried, but unluckily it has been superseded by Fafnir (ECM, similar speed, better armor and more cooling), so I've sold it some time ago. One of my longest headshot was achieved while using this Nightstart build. I remember a 2xRAC5 + 5 or 6 MLs build being praised by a friend of mine, but is mostly a brawler and not really worth it with the current meta (and RAC5 being too risky and almost useless on slow mechs) IMHO there are no really viable builds for mid to long range fights: very wide arm hardpoints means this mech isn't good at side poking, while being mediocre at hill poking... You could try a 2xUAC10 + 5-6xMLs build, though. EDIT: or mix some other lasers with those UAC10, but still... Meh: you can achieve a similar result with a Warhammer.
Yes, it is not a great chasis. I’d say it competes with the corsair in a race to the bottom of the pile... The reason I prefer the -9P variant is that it is the only one with torso ballistics that have no convergence issues and are near the cockpit line of sight. In principle it could take dual HGRs or dual GR+ERLLs for long range. It still won’t be great due to the basic lousy geometry and lack of significant quirks. The only one with an interesting quirk is tye -9s with -1HSL for UAC20. This could have been very powerful had the ballistics been in the STs, but alas in this variant they are waaaay out there in the arms.
Yes, this is strictly a masochistic/try hard enterprise here. I want to experience all the flavors of mechs, and it is time for the Nightstar!
Sure Nightstar isn't a top performer but the geometry and hardpoint challenge makes it that more interesting. I own three of them and I use the following builds: 1. Largot's hot brawling build of the Obligatory Double Tap NSR-9S: 4xMPL, 2xUAC20, LE325 2. Duty Remain's stealth LGR/AC2 build, DPS Stealth-Star NSR-10P: 2xLGR, 2xAC2, 2xERML, ECM, LE300 3. My own personal take on the NSR-9P, Captain Face Time: 2xLBX10, 2xRAC2, 2xAMS, LE295
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I am going with the quad UAC5 build: _ https://kitlaan.gitlab.io/mwoskill/...f62101cf37f0000580801000000808f0701#s=Weapons It is serviceable. Skilling it up I've been getting some solid games with it! Very dependent on keeping the enemy at midrange. Fire groups: Left click: Left 2 UAC5's. Right click: Right 2 UAC5's. 3rd firegroup: Arms only. Cyclops and Fafnir are the other more meta 4xUAC5 options.
