http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=81&l=2f54e8f6b28a61700c9c90a6cb63871568ac0f5e This build has a 60 Alpha at 270m. That is pretty deadly considering it has more firepower than some Assault mechs. Most mediums and lights will be vaporized if you hit them for a full alpha strike in the CT. Just make sure you carry a cool-shot 9 by 9 with you when you go into battle... juuuuust in case ya need a little pick up and go juice!
A 60 alpha is hellish, I don't think I've seen any worse while still keeping the mech relatively cool after the strike! 28 heat for a 60 pts damage strike is damn good. 4s and 3s cooldowns between alphas, this thing will be a killer...
You can squish out a little extra speed by using the XL265 instead of the 260 rated engine (same weight). Also, sadly, a lot of builds aren't unique to the Firebrand, but could be reproduced by the S-Variant, only difference being those nice arm energy hardpoints.
True enough on the 265. As I said I am not at home right now and am doing about 4 billion things at once. As for the reason I put it on this instead of the S variant it is BECAUSE of those energy points in the arms. When moving faster I find convergence is an issue in the S-Variant and so had marginal, but noticeable, improvements in the Firebrand over the S with this build. Allow me to clarify this now; I BOUGHT the Firebrand because of the energy hardpoints on the arms helping with convergence. No, you can't put anything on the arms on this build as the AC20s take up all the space. I meant the mech in general. It's hard to type and be clear and concise on an iphone but I am now home and can respond to Skribs pokes and prods with a little more ease.
Not with THIS variant... I bought the MECH because I wanted both Ballistic AND Energy Hardpoints on the arms for my UAC5 build and the convergence. I should have been more clear I suppose on my post. Thank you for bringing that up.
As a counter to this, Similar armour, faster engine and more ammo, but at the cost of 2xml. So you've a slightly smaller Alpha ( 50 as opposed to 60 ) but extra ammo will let you do more damage over the longer term, and the speed helps you to live long enough to use it. this isn't my build, but its the one I run in, spec was given to me by A.C.E.S. ThunderHart FIREBRAND
I ran a similar build to the one posted by Verbosity on my Jag (another ton of ammo plus a tad more armor and an XL255). After purchasing FIREBRAND (gotta love the 30% c-bills) I've been sifting through trying to find a build that I liked that utilised the arm energy points but have never been happy. I decided to go back to what I loved which as I stated was a build similar to the formentioned post. However after coming back here for another gander I thought I would give the posted build by Verbosity a go. Awesome stuff. Have to be mindfull of the reduced ammo (a whole 7 rounds) but the increased speed has given me an increase in mobility to bring my Big Bangers to Bear. Add in "Adv. Seismic Sensor" (save this debate for elsewhere) and its "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". Sorry about the lengthy post. Long time reader first time poster and I have to add.. gotta love this site Michael.
Glad you enjoy the site and find it useful! That is what we are here for; helping the community learn and find what works for them in addition to what the min/max builds are
i love this build, but always feel guilty using it. As most of the veteran players consider this a "no-skill/punk-bitch" build.
I would not feel guilt running any AC/20 Jager build these days as there is almost always at least 1 in every man drop deck atm. Even in some of the limited tonnage drop decks for LMS etc Jager bombs and Dakka AC/2 Jagers seem to be fairly common. Overall they're great mechs and this is no doubt one of the best builds.
I find the lack of heavy energy weaponry in the arms a waste of the Firebrand's unique potential and usage, making it rather bland with its classic Double 20 Jäger style. But to call this build anything less than dangerous and effective would be an outright lie. And even then, with the hero mech benefits, having a simple to use damage dealing bruiser like this is perfect for farming Cbills quick and rough.
