Thought I'd give a 100 tonner with single heat sinks the chance to beat a double heat sink variant when it comes to heat efficiency, and it actually seems possible ... This build fills every single available slot with single heat sinks, rendering 40 of 'em, and a heat efficiency of 50% for 4 PPC's, something I dare say cannot be matched any other way at all. 20 seconds to overheat should mean 4 or 5 alphas before you have to cool off (which should not take too long with 40 heat sinks). And each alpha is 40 points of damage. Cons: No short range weapons, no AMS, the XL makes you more vulnerable. It's of course possible to build similar configs with ER PPC's (warmer) or Large Lasers (cooler). Comments are welcome!
I'm less than thrilled with the prospect of an Atlas running an XL engine. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=18&l=25a6fc8cdc2a528b47033e400cba85fb08ea30ea I built this as a counter offer. Its faster, has more armor, and uses a standard engine, but only a 44% efficiency. Is extra 6% heat efficiency worth all the sacrifices?
This should be about the same efficiency as 24 DHS, which means you're giving up 16 tons just to make use of SHS. This 4xPPC + Gauss build only has 16 DHS, but has very close sustained damage to your build and a lot more speed. This is an interesting take, but I think DHS offers a lot more options.
I do agree that DHS in almost any config is preferrable. This build was an attempt to see if it's possible at all to make a more heat efficient build using single heat sinks, and as such, I think the experiment worked. And 6% might not be worth it, but it still makes a difference! Thanks for the feedback anyway!
