So this is what I'm thinking of working with. The ERPPC is so you can take your pot shots (obviously) and then you can consider the 4x MG sort of like a snipers pistol.

The are there for CQB and that is it. Your job is a Sniper and not to be mixing it up in a furball unless there is no other choice. With only 3 tons of MG ammo you have a severe disadvantage for prolonged engagements so keep it as brief as possible.

This mech is primarily designed as a support mech for TEAM play and not a hunter/killer K/D grinder machine! I would load it up with UAV modules or Artillery or even Airstrike modules to better assist your team while you are spotting for your sniper shots.

I'd drop 1/2 ton of armor on the arms to get the 325 XL...mainly because I don't have a 320 XL to swap in. I was actually thinking of doing something like this when I get around to Cicadas, because the MG buff will hit before I level them.

If you buy a CDA-3M before you level this then you will have a XL320 you can rip out and drop in here. It comes with the mech.

This is the most cost effective way of doing this type of build.

In the table top game, MGs are for infantry suppression, but since that does not exist in MWO, is there any point of mounting them at all, other than to use up space you could use for a heat sink ?

Hmmm...I might consider it, but I'd be more likely to sell the 320 to make some money back.

The reason I don't like anything in the 310-320 range is because the 305 XL is such a big bump in weight from 300 (1.5 tons) and then it's a smooth 0.5 tons per 5 engine rating up to 340 (and then 1.5 per 10 for the next couple ups). I'd rather catch it on the high end of the weight plateau than the low end.

    Just my personal opinion.

Marec, MGs have an extreme amount of damage on opened components. They will also be buffed to do double their current damage in 1 week.

Seen this build a few times. I know the MG buff has been out for a while, but can anyone give some feedback to its effectiveness? Very much considering getting a 3C as my last Cicada.

have been grinding with this build,

now it's not an easy variant of cicada to ride, and this is probably the best build for it. the ERPPC lets you snipe and deal a little damage, and the MG's really help shake up enemy mechs that are already under heavy fire.

As Michael says this is a team mech, played well , and as part of a team, it can help you win games, Just don't expect it to be a high scorer.

5-stars - on the basis that its the best loadout for this Variant - by far....

    Edit: for bragging rights:

Thing thing is awesome on caustic!
every other map I'm struggling to do 200 points of damage. On caustic I regularly do 300+
I was 1 shot away from killing another stalker, but decided to go for the points ( being the last mech left alive ). Just before we hit 750 an atlas let off a volley of LRMs which did kill me, luckily not before we hit the 750 mark

I strip out some armor and a ton of ammo for a set of AMS. This mech is nice, although there is the mall problem of running up rough terrain sometimes with the new terrain rules. Also fun is that you can easily swap the ER PPC with a LPLas when you fell like it.

Just watched this happen to a spider on my team a few days ago. Best feeling ever to win with no mechs alive. Many cheers were had.

I prefer an ERLL for this build. It lets me put an AMS in this thing to do some extra support for team mechs, and not get destroyed by streak cats or splat cats.

That's what I run - I've yet to run out of ammo, either - I may switch a ton of MG ammo for a DHS.

I would, those ER PPC's run hot! Trust me, I have one on my HGN-733C and it is my only energy weapon and it drives up my heat soooo much it is kinda idiotic lol.

To be honest, I don't overheat with this one much. Unless you're holding down fire on the ERPPC for over 25 seconds, you'll be fine.

Maybe it's just because I am usually firing two (Count them, two) UAC/5's at the same time :p ahh well I could also have bad luck and just overheat more than others.

    5/5,
Hands down the finest build for this chassis when using the XL320. With current quirks this thing is a complete beast when supporting a lance or group. Can get a bit rough if you are caught alone. Until you dump the XL320 this will take you to elite no issues.
