It's for the players interested in how games look. You know, those guys that when asked what they think about a game, they answer "it's so beautiful, I run it on max settings but my two crossfired GTX Titans almost can't handle it, I must buy a third card". I personally can't see the difference. (edit: to be clear, it's a third party software that allows you to alter graphics - it can look like a wallhack from an anti-cheat point of view, that's why some players are worried)
I tried it a few years back, forget what game, you can make the shaders that create leaves, or bushes, or dust vanish. I STILL can't figure out why they allow macros...either put it in game, or not..
I think it's because if you can remap your mouse or keyboard, there is no evidence that you are macroing, compared to a program. In the logs it will just be press-release, press-press-press, if you are not using a third-party software, so they allow it since they don't know how to deal with it. I don't mind it, too, as I think a supertechnological battlemech could be programmed to fire a Gauss or ACs in a certain way (and so yes, better putting it directly ingame, because some macros are still not legal, ie MG macro, that changes weapon mechanics).
I'm sure there will be cheaters as long as there is something to be gained trying to bypass skill. I did the AC2/jager macro last year and it (to me) clearly bypassed games intent of heat rate of fire etc And my beloved Nova with 12 smalls I could never get to work right (new keyboard new mouse, gave up) man, they porked that poor mech to death
Havnt thought of it for MWO but used it some in Arma2/DayZ to spice up the colors and being easier on the eyes. Like in the video earlier in this thread, when it shows the split-screen its not as gray and foggy. Because of the color difference (that you cant get from ingame settings) it do in some cases make it easier to see certain things, but its not showing you anything that you could not have seen from the start (with better display, eyesight or skillz)
It is already announced that macros are ok. Plus, it is common for any good mouse to have built in macro support of some kind.
Now that i would call cheating, if you can make things invisible. For just color-contrast-tuning for a better visual quality it is ok imo.
not invisible, but swapping textures out that made it easier to spot enemies...It was a while ago and got banned from..BF3? allied assault? I forget that was two computers ago, might revisit it
Upon looking back at this. I do recognize one of them as a former UMAD member. Wow. Never thought that would happen.
hmmm, if I didn't have a life, would be interesting to go back and look at screenshots on the mwo forum where folks were bragging about 9 kills, 1500 damage etc and look for names.
