Heh I was trying to get clear of the hill before I fired with my right arm so I didn't tear up the ground...but didn't notice the UAV above, letting them know exactly where I was going to appear When I lost the arm, it was supposed to be a full alpha, and instead I ended up with only the laser left. >< And yeah, the MLX match was 1 kill and exactly 700 damage. Which ain't bad for 1 PPC I just didn't have enough time to finish off the WHK since I had to keep moving to avoid his gauss rifles (he was being a bit dumb though...if he'd been smart and just used his lasers, he would've hit me more and made me even more skittish about engaging). With only another minute to fight, I would've had him...
Meant to ask btw - why did you not use heat vision? I couldn't even see the guy most of the time you fired. I'm not much of a pop tarter though in fairness ergo my question.
I have a decent monitor, and I can actually see pretty well on that map in night mode. Night Vision is nice, but if he moved further away, I might not notice him standing there, and give him a free shot. Hence, I just kept it off and relied on my Mark One Sensors (eyes) to do the work for me. If I'd been on my laptop, which doesn't have a quite as good display, I would've had to use NV or heat vision.
Yeah I spend too much time trying to spot targets while in the air so quite often can be totally ineffective poptarting.
A big part of why I can poptart well honestly comes because I played a metric shit ton of Tribes games, including Tribes: Ascend most recently. Being able to make fast reactions to targets you only see for a split second is how you win that game. For reference, this is a video one of my old clanmates in Ascend put out. He was a better capper than I was, I tended to chase guys like him to recover flags...but imagine how hard it was to shoot people at these speeds Specifically, the kill at 2:00 is VERY hard to do, since that weapon is a slower projectile, not hitscan like some weapons were. Blue Plate skill was a hard thing to have It translated over to MWO. Here's an even better video (although he gets glitched for the first grab) Speed Is Life! Best example, a combat video:
Same here. I'm actually amazed when I'm told I have a good aim, because back in the days when I was playing Quake I was probably the worst aimer of our bunch (I had pretty decent prediction skills though ). I was a bit better at Tribes, unable to kill anyone on a duel but kind of skilled at stopping wannabe cappers with a proxi on their face (I mostly played soldier on flag). Anyway, I learned a lot from theses games, both Quake and Tribes, compared to them slow games like MWO seem so easy.
Well I have to admit I think MWO is a lot easier targetting wise than a lot of FPS games I've played. For me my problem with pop tarting probably relates to only doing it when I'm levelling stuff or occasionally. Compare that to my key 3 mechs - aka the 1N, 6R and DD. Those I play a minimum of 18 competitive games a week even now I'm not at all active. When active I play a LOT of CW using mysteriously those same mechs. All have exactly the same velocity and linked weapon styles so I suppose its easy mode but it also means I rarely even think about lead time its much more point and shoot.
