Thanks mate, that looks really interesting. @Remarius: What exactly is it that makes the Hellslinger this bad? From the outside look it seems totally alright. Nice energy quirks with duration and heat generation, some PPC velocities if you're into that, four high mounted energy hard points, three high mounted missile hard points with cooldown quirks, plus the unique heat transfer quirk. It's not overwhelming omgwtfbbqawesome, but it looks a lot better than the Pretty Baby. A lot.
I never get any responses when I ask in game... is reg in cw complete shit? I literally wouldn't know where my damage went after a shot if I didn't have a target info HUD. Definitely have to lag lead by several degrees. I pick targets by who's standing still because at least it'll land damage.
It basically has no focus and other mechs just do the same job much better - many of them free. For an assault its not tanky as its so huge and at that point I wonder why not use an AWS-8Q as that's got very nice PPC quirks or a STK-4N if you want the energy quirks.
It's also worth mentioning that the heat reversal quirk seems like it should be a good thing, but it actually doesn't seem to help that much. If you're on Terra Therma, you might get an extra shot or two off before you're too hot, but other mechs are going to play the laser boat game more effectively. You also have to play the Battlemaster game, which is where you decide if you want more firepower or more speed...since choosing "both" means running a big XL engine, which is risky, even in the BLR (although it can handle it better than most). If you go the XL route, a lot of the time that means a big engine, maybe even the XL400, which is costly as all shit (6.5 million). And even then, it can't hold a nasty amount of firepower AND cool off enough to be useful, so you have to trade somewhere. If you're running an all laser build, the 1G, 1D, and 3M can all do the same builds more or less, whereas if you want to focus on LRM or SRM builds, the 1S can do those better with one extra hardpoint. It just doesn't bring much to the field, except that heat reversal quirk, which is not as good as it sounds. On hot maps, you'll still run hot if you're bringing good firepower, and on cold maps, you'll run even hotter and be outclassed in heat terms by 23 other mechs. And the only way around that heat is to negate your speed, which is the biggest advantage that the BLR gets. In a world without the Stalker 4N, it might have had more of a place, but there are just too many mechs with great quirks that can run the same, or better builds, and do it more effectively.
This sale was nice for me, I got : -Misery (After way too much time, but the extra MC paired with 50% sale, was too much to skip). -Huginn (I like the Oxide, but no JJs and big CT kills the fun for me, problem solved). I got a 2X too, to complete the mastery with the (C) 3L I won. -Jade falcon warhorn, love to use it with "bird" kind mechs, very appropriate. -Steiner warhorn, for the rest, really cool imo -2 months of premium, I couldn't decide between 1 or 2, I will waste like 10 day because of holydays, but in the end, I just went with 2 because of the sale. Finally I have some new mechs to play, loving all of them, but the Raven 3L (really not my style, I get bored so I just skip to MPL and SRM after a short time) but I didn't buy it so it's ok.
Thanks for the input, guys. I couldn't decide on which one to buy and did what any responsible adult would do: buy more MC and get several of them. I might be stupid. So I grabbed me a Golden Boy, a Protector and a Dragon Slayer. The first round with the Goldilocks and the 5 LRM5 buzzsaw was awful but I got a bad team and we got utterly stomped anyway. The Protector build with the 2 LB10-Xs was amazing, first round with absolutely nothing unlocked, almost 700 damage without any consumables. On the Dragon Slayer I put the default Gauss + 2 PPC poptart and managed to grab me four kills, again with absolutely zip unlocked. Seems to be working very well.
Grabed the Spider-Anansi for the lulz at half prize as well. Current build is the 'Wolfbane' which looked fine on papyer. It's indeed not bad, but you won' get any kills if you're running in a wolf pack with 2 Huginns ( @Lan / @TheMadPanda )...
