@enileph, my Direwolf will be upgrading to that shortly. I was just waiting for the new variant to come out for C-Bills. P.S. Don't forget the dual gauss!
And then you have three more mechs - not quite sure why people can score sub 80 but I do see it occasionally. Eighty is the equivalent of 20 match score for each mech....
Managing expectations: I'm burnt out because of this event already. Unlike in public matches, you can't do another CW drop even with a different drop deck, you're locked into the drop you're in (not sure if the same would be true for different planets). But to get the 40 drops for the free mechs, you need to invest a minimum of 20 hours.. in 3 days, that's insane. In 6 days, it's more manageable, but still a lot, and the 20 minimum assume that you don't wait for 20-40 (or more) minutes for a CW drop. I know it's "free stuff", but most of us have an expectation of getting it. And it's not freaking worth loosing sleep or missing RL stuff, especially since it's getting warmer now, to get it. That's the part that burns me out. They did something fairly smart for the last time a challenge was really difficult, that was the Cataphract -3D I think, they brought it back the following weekend and gave everyone an additional chance to get it.... don't think that will happen here. [/rant]
There is a quite a few stomps (both ways) and some really nice and close battles. But iv had allot of fun, one was against MS where I asked them not to crush us to badly and that battle where fairly even did some 2600 damage, 11 kills but the whole battle feelt like they where just holding back a bit. Last push they came in with mass streak.
Me and Tobbe is in FFR teamspeak, there is like 4 12man groups going atm. We are currently in a drop thou, and this is likely my last one for the evening before work.
20/20. Which is done for me. Had a blast overall. Learnt a few things, got arse raped a lot in pugs. But still had fun overall. Team work is OP. A well organised pug can still put the hurt on a 12 man. Oh and Clan small pulse lasers. Did I mention Clan small pulse lasers. CLAN SMALL PULSE LASERS!
I run enough SPL monsters to know to fear them That said, in CW, my mechs never once had issues, mostly because I change from my usual brawling mode of play into a long-range build (3 of 4 mechs used LLas or ERLLas), so I was able to more or less negate SPL/Superbrawler builds. Half of everything is planning, and I always figure that a CW match is going to take place mostly at ranges beyond 400m (and was usually right). I'd actually say that the DWF runs it fairly poorly, simply because of its speed. The Gargoyle, however, is an underrated performer with that build, since it moves at TBR speed with Tweak. The Nova and SCR can run it even better. I don't know that I'd trust taking it into CW though...again, I've found that long range works far better there (and makes qualifying 100x easier and faster). Most matches, I qualified on my first mech.
Two to go to claim the Banshee. I am very happy I didn't do this on every evening but spent time with my wife as well. Met a very dickish group led by some CJR guys who pushed out of the base in a match of counter attack on Hellbore Springs this morning. Hellbringers, Timbers and Warhawks only and maybe one or two Stormcrows with cSSRM30 on top. They swept our first wave with ease and proceed to camp the spawn afterwards. Managed to kill one before my second mech was down. Needless to say I didn't qualify that match as 1 kill, 5 assists and below 500 damage wasn't enough... Worst part of it, I even asked them to kindly consider some guys would still need some 80 point matches, but all they said was "SHOOT MORE" or "Well, WE will get 80 each."
Well, as this is a competitive game, no one needs to comply to enemy requests. Although I must say some ppl are just plain assholes when winning. There's no real respect for the enemy. Yesterday we stomped a clan unit at Hellebore Spring by rushing their dropzone in the second wave (they pushed out after the first to chase us and we swept around the corner towards theirs). They came one by one, we finished them off quickly and trolled every new dropping Mech. The last guy, seeing he had no chance of survival, asked for zelbriggen. We complied and asked our two pugs to stand down until he chose an enemy. Well.... they didn't really care and shot him as soon as he left the dropship.... No one in my team was braggin', we don't need this. The two pugs were claiming how good the were at destroying clanners.... like I said... assholes. (in the end one of them did not even reach the 80 and the other one was at mere 680DMG with one kill... priceless!)
@Durandal, I didn't mean that I would use the whale for CW. I fully intend to use it for puging only. Frankly I don't think the Direwhale has a place in CW, taking one sacrafices to much of your deck given the poor choice of Clan lights. I find short range brawling is better for Clans in CW. I do not think that clan mechs can trade very well at range in CW. The burn time on the lasers is far to long leaving yourself exposed. The hardpoint locations are poor, low slung arms, mid to low side torso slots again meaning you have to be more exposed. ER-PPCs and Gauss Rifles make the arms fixed so you have to look directly at your target, all of this leads to getting cored or losing side torsos easier. IS are the pinpoint kings and as such trading with them at range is folly, short burn time LL, AC5/AC10, PPC, ER-PPC all of these on the correctly quirked mech can be devastating. I've seen pug vs pug games where we've been 12 - 0 down because Clanners insist on sniping at embeded lines of Stalkers, Thunderbolts, Dragons, Awesomes etc.. and the IS haven't even come in the gate yet. Clan players should let the IS come into the base, travel down one of the many valleys, surround them and engage them at short range. Let the greater surviability of the Clan mechs shine through. SPL, SRMs, Streaks all of these are better than the IS counter parts. Plus streaks hard counter IS lights which are muchly better than Clan lights. This is all my opinion of course and aimed at CW, not solo or group queue.
I can't find where to claim my reward Mech. Can you guys help me out? Oddly enough, I also don't get my unit's current rank displayed on the event page, despite being logged in... Edit: Found it, it's directly above your match list, below the unit rank list of the event. http://mwomercs.com/tournaments?t=201504tuk
Hehe beat me to it. Yeah, when they have a "choose a reward" type thing, it will always be on the tournament page.
Clans walked it... 5 matches with 5 clan 12 mans versus 12 solo's at the end... that took 4 hrs 30 mins almost. Thanks PGI for the most tedious and boring 5 days of MWO. Time for a break I think particularly as Witcher 3 is out next month and loads I've meant to do.
