In fairness our unit uses a variety of mechs its just they all have a place like GRF-2N's and SDR-5D's. Some people like me basically only play 3-4 mechs in CW/Competitive. I can't even think how many matches I've dropped now in the DRG-1N, WVR-6R and JM6-DD. To a lesser extent the TDR-9SE. I find myself almost zoned out at times in a Zen like state just slamming rounds into peoples CT and probing for their heads. Those 1,000 or whatever drops in the DRG-1N might not have improved my ability to tank but I'm good at snap firing and focusing down targets or suppressing them. Scary thing is the last week I dropped 89 times in my 1N. Scary or depressing, pick your poison! If I'm standing there not moving looking at you odds is I'm trying for a headshot so don't complain when you die. Burn me down while riding my AC5's or take immediate avoidance action. My left torso and right arms are critical weaknesses. My JM6.... OK its just weak to easy killing. My WVR is similar but fast and agile. On the other hand I can only do that when not being focused so those ECM mechs and scary STK-4N's you focus on are critical to my performance.
@ Remarius I thought QQ was the one we fought that immensely tight counterattack against,... I may be mixing matches up by now
Got 40 tonight and picked up the Banshee. Now I have to decide if that 5 mil CB is important enough to me to go for...
@Remarius, thanks for the advice man. I will give that a go tonight. Think I might give a x2 Timberwolf, x2 fridge.. or a Nova and a badder.. Hummmm.
Try Timberwolf/Hellbringer/Hellbringer/Adder Timber - Laser vomit or 6SPL/3SRM6 if map is favoring close range Hellbringer - laser/gauss and swap one for 6SPL/2SRM6 if map is favoring close range Adder - dual PPC or streaks, SRM's or LRM's all depending on the map. It's a hassle to change it all within 60 seconds but it is quite often rewarding to have the proper tools for the job. I run it and some peeps from MS seem also to go for the Heavier chassis, although the loadout may vary.
Some people said it was impossible to do Clan-like scores in CW on the IS side. I said, "challenge accepted." I had two mechs left.
Just bragging rights ;p Was happy to break 3000 in IS mechs. Especially after the night of utter shit I had haha
Had about 7 more games tonight. Only one win, vs a 12 man surprisingly. Despite the rest being rolfstomps I managed to retain respectable scores. Unfortunately I think I have had my fill of CW for a while.
Originally thought the queue was going to be my biggest enemy for this event, but it turns out it's RL and the practical limits of needing sleep. Though to be fair, the queue still sucks as IS, especially since CW groups are not as common as they should be -_- Looks like I'll be settling for 10-15. After my early duds this weekend and finally getting real playtime today, I hit the participation 5 and am trucking on to 10. More than that will be...pleasing but not probable. Considering the requirement of 80 score, regular queue fixes of dud matches would probably be WORSE. Clans would bitch that IS got a free win in the event overall because of the essentially auto-win, and the IS players would have an even more terrible lottery of "can you even score, bro?" I like that this event is happening / will have happened. I like that they extended it. I do not so much like that their solutions to the predictable problems were to not actually address the structure of the event or the way the queue works but to instead entice IS players to break contract and go clan to try and level out the population, since it doesn't address the issues that make the population skew so bad for an event like this. Especially the punishing those who are using the line properly because one dipstick decided "OH NO, YOU GUYS, THERE'S STILL FIVE LEFT, I BETTER LEAVE THE QUEUE TO TRY AND GET IN FASTER!" *stabbystabbystabby*
After a marathon gaming experience I reached 41 yesterday. 41, because the team that helped me get the last 2 points I needed had no 12th man around so I stayed to make sure they would not get a "leaving idiot" in their queue. Must say that although it was a grind, it was fun. I think we won around 90% of our drops, and at least half were really good fights!
Mine were usually easy wins for one side (usually ours admittedly). Only one in 40 matches was a close fight and knife edge - our side was left with 4 smoking mechs.
Now that I've got over my strop from last night I will make a push to get the 1.5 million cbills. Only a couple of matches off. One thing I have learned is Clan SPL are boss.
Had a good night to finish off the challenge, got 50/50 in 50 matches with no fails. As a bonus, I also hit 50 followers on Twitch, and one of the new followers left a generous donation...so all around good night! Now to completely log off MWO for a few days and recuperate.
I left yesterday at 48... damn work! So 50... today... u r mine! A matchscore of 80 is not even considered grinding by my standards, as they are achieved w/o greater effort. But the queue time and the fact that some matches are fought until the last second and this x50, whoa... time....
