My takes: You can do the "Get something else first." mechs later, get the useful ones first. Some I would outright skip it unless you have nothing new to buy. Finished basic on all, and elite on most (the ones that does not are really unspecial ones). Pirate's bane: Cheap and ECM. TDK: Get something else first. Anansi Spider: Really fun to play with. Ember: Nice Hero. Oxide / Huggin: The famous SRM lights, you know the drill. X5: skip it. Arrow: Get something else first. SiB: Get something else first. YLW: This thing is cool, iconic, and fun to play. Fast AC20! Grid Iron: Good for Gauss, but the generic bonus for ballistic is good also. LoupDG: Get something else first. Sparky!: Great light energy boat. Love. Golden Boy: Great, but you can do similar things with KTO-18, GB = slower engine + extra energy. GD: Nothing to see here, skip. Fang: Get something else first. High Ballistic mount though. Flame: Get something else first. Too similar to the regular version. IV4: Get something else first. Some people say it is ok (not great still), but can't use it right. Jester: Good thing with nice paintjob. Firebrand: Famous, right? Ilya: You know the drill. Protector: Get something else first. I like it, but most say it is nothing special. PB: Get something else first. Dragon Slayer: Get something else first. Hellslinger: Get something else first. Misery!!!: You will love this. Heavy Metal: Get something else first. Free built-in warhorn though. LM: Get something else first. BH: Get something else first.
Tbh This is a fantastic Sale. One of the best ever imo. I have just bought the following ones: Pirates Bane Arrow Sparky Flame Pretty Baby Heavy Metal Here are my recommendations: Pirates Bane (has XL190 & ECM! Stock config is great, too) Anansi (better than the aweful V) Oxide (freaky little SRM Monster) Ember (scary Soul Reaper) Arrow (great combo of critweapons) LdG (great Skin, great SRM Power) Sparky (great Jumpsniper) YLW (you know ShadowWarrior?) Firebrand (comes from Hell) Jester (Jokers Mech) Flame (can BFG) IM (can Chainsaw) Pretty Baby (get it for the XL340 on a budget, sell the rest if you don't like) Hellslinger (great Skin, cool Quirk) Misery (can BFG) HM (it's Mechporn, badass Warhorn)
Thinkin of doin a 2nd pay to lose dropdeck, this one not as bad as my Anansi / St. Ives' Blue / Jester / Heavy Metal... ...and I still haven't sold off my old Death's Knell... but... Ember / Sparky / ? / Dragon Slayer Maybe. Not sure. I mean, that above is like... $20ish only. I really don't like the Heavy Hero selection, it's ass. Maybe IV Four...
So far, picked up: Arrow Grid Iron Sparky 2 Warhorns (FRR and Cameron to have a total of 4 in my drop deck). I am very happy with the sale aswell and am considering other mechs but I now have the ones I was curious about. Previous purchases include a Boars Head, Misery, Ilya, Firebrand, Jester, Ember, Pirates Bane.
Sparky definitely doesn't belong in that category @Soy. It's a rather good mech. Picked up IV4 and am surprised in a positive way. Did a rather simple build mirroring a DRG-1N (2x AC5 (10t ammo) + 2x MLas) @ XL280 with 2 JJs and directly took it wirh me into CW. Lots of dakka, feeling like a cowboy shooting from hips' height, quite mobile and decent hit boxes.
BTW, unfortunately the sale doesn't cover the Premium codes from the gift store I was sad as a streamer to find that out
So I went ahead and bought Ember, Sparky, and Derp Slayer... First time ever piloting an FS, 5k, 3a, 621dmg... just a 4 ML 4 MG normal build... the thing has such a fucking broken hit box. Within 1 round I knew this. Haven't piloted it anymore than that. Just took the Sparky out for 2 rounds, first was 3k and a bit of dmg, with a win... second game was 618 dmg, 2k, with a win... running 2 regular PPCs up in shoulder, goin 93 with JJs, and 4 SL (2 in each hand). Fun mech. It makes funky sounds [ambient]. Haven't played the Derp Slayer yet, don't have a large enough engines to run the build I came up with for it... sold all my real big XLs when I came back and didn't want to keep my AWS-9M around... Anyways, just thought I'd add to this thread. ps - sold my Death's Knell, didn't have the mech bay room otherwise pps - hope they put out a decent JJable heavy as the next hero... then mah 2 dex is complete! if i had bought say IV Four i could run 2 decks like this... pay2lose: Anansi / St. Ives' Blue / IV Four / ......and then the notrlypay2lose... Ember / Sparky / Jester.... dunno which ones better between HM and DS cuz I haven't played the DS yet, so dunno where they'd go.
Stalkers being nearly the only assaults I do somewhat decent in, I have wanted the Misery ever since it came out. However seen that I buy every MWO pack that comes out and my addiction to SC, I could not justify buying that hero assault. With the current sale however, I could get the Misery, Huginn and Sparky AND still have MC spare as compared to having had bought the Misery back in the day,... Le me = one happy Mechpilot!
Just brought the Blackjack's as well, since both the Arrow and BJ-1 are on sale the only full price mech I needed was the BJ-1X
Alright gentlefolks, I'll need some purchase advice. I do want to add another hero mech to my stable as long as they're that cheap, but I can't really decide. I already got a Pirate's Bane, Anansi, Huginn, Ember, Grid Iron, Sparky, Gray Death, Jester, Firebrand and Misery and am not looking to buy a second one there. The ones I've eyed a bit closer are the Yen-Lo-Wang, Golden Boy, Loup De Guerre, Protector, Dragon Slayer and Hellslinger. I got enough MC banked to afford either the Hellslinger or the Dragon Slayer or the Protector or any two of the mediums. I do not own any other mechs from any of those chassis aside from the CN9-AH loyalty mech, which seems pretty close to the YLW anyway. As far as play styles go I'm not overly fond of LRMs (although I do enjoy ruining someone's day with a short-range direct fire buzzsaw) but aside from that I like everything from Gauss pissing-matches to all-out SRM face punching. Anyone got any suggestions?
It looks like you could use another assault mech. I would recommend either the Boars Head, or the Dragon Slayer. Both are good mechs, and have good quirks.
I've been curious about the Hellslinger since it came out, does anyone have good experiences with it? Any bad? Does that special external 50% enviroment heat really help in Terra or Caustic for example?
Hellsinger is awful, Boars Head is poor, not played the Dragon Slaver in ages so unsure on that. Orion I see used well - talk to @Aylek and @PyckenZot as they both use the protector in CW effectively. I like the La Malinche post quirks with 3 LPL and an AC10. No heat penalties with the IS LL/LPL/ERLL changes and tanks well. Yen-lo-wang and Loup de Guerre still both work well in the short range slots (AC20 and SRM's respectively).
From first hand experience its awful. Its honestly Pretty Baby-esque in its level of awfulness. Why on earth they didn't give it a better set of quirks I can't work out. Not many mechs I'm that negative about.
@Anassi Guessing Rems was referring to you. I drive this Protector to great effect. An in your face brawler. Perfect for coordinated pushes,...
