Who would win in a max-range trade? Will the extreme range and front-loaded damage of the Gauss Rifle be enough to counter the constant stream of pin-point laser damage? Will the need to "stare" at the target be the downfall of the ERLL spam? Maps of engagement: Alpine Tourmaline Mechs start out of sight over 2000m away with open ground between them. In one corner you have the Ghost Walker. Boating a total EIGHT Clan ER Large Lasers with 30 Clan Double Heatsinks. In the opposite corner you have the Dual/Triple gauss rifle Dire Wolf (final build TBD). Must be Gauss based with at least 4 tons of ammo. Welcome to all suggestions. Build 1 Build 2 Build 3 Build 4 Build 5
That's a REALLY tough call . . . I think the determining factor here may really just be the map (i.e. the heat). On Alpine, I'd vote Ghost Walker, 'cause that thing can REALLY tear other things to shreds quickly (especially when its target is slow, like another Dire). But with a hot map like Tourmaline, on the other hand, the heat-efficient Gauss are gonna give the other guy a fairly strong advantage, if only because the Ghost Walker pilot will have to hold off on his shots to cool down. Tough choice. But I think my vote goes to the Gauss. In particular, my vote goes to the dual-Gauss and quad-ERLL build. It's a sweet compromise between the two extremes: high firepower, but still enough heat-efficiency to be sustainable.
I like this one, but would probably downgrade the TC for more ammo. Going to triple fire those ERLL, and take the ghostheat. On the side note, we should probably swap the side torso for ones with quirks we need.
Other than running the "A" as the main chassis for the CT and Prime RT, there really aren't any quirks to worry about.
ERLL spam. The shear starting dps could core the gauss build too quickly for its weapons to matter. I would be exceedingly happy to test this build from both points of view (gauss build or 8erll idc just toss me an invite, only downside is i am peasant without prem time) EDIT: Build i think could challenge it.
An update to this build battle. Pooty and I managed to get 2 drops in on Alpine. First drop I ran 2Gauss+2ERPPC, Pooty ran 8ERLL. We started at exactly 2000m. I was able to start dealing damage with the Gauss rifles much sooner than his 8ERLL, it was very easy to hit with them as well. Most of the damage was dealt using the Gauss rifles. ERPPCs began to factor in once closer, but by then the match was already decided. Pooty's mech fell. Second drop we switched roles. I ran the 8 ERLL and Pooty was in the 2Gauss+2ERPPC. I took a substantial amount of damage closing as I expected based on the first round, but I was able to torso twist and spread it fairly well. I used a macro to fire all 8 ERLL in groups of 2 with 0.5 second delay between groups. I was able to keep enough damage on-target to barely pull of a win, simply because Pooty closed with me and put me into nominal range for the ERLL. If he had held distance, i'm certain it would have lost. Based on these results, we didn't even try on Tourmaline as that map already favors the Guass+ERPPC build because of it's increased surface temperature.
