Haha, fair enough! I agree it would definitely be an uphill battle for the blackjack. Speed and mobility vs armor and durability. It's an age old debate going back centuries Either way, I'd like to be in the stands to watch to show!
I missed this post. Did you recorded the duel already? If not I'd gladly pilot the Wubbringer against @Falconium (or anybody else)
No, this one has not been done yet. I'm up for it, we just need a date set (could be today technically, I'm available in about 3 hours) and some people with Premium Time. I don't have any running at the moment, though I suppose I could buy a day for what it's worth.
@Falconium Tonight is good for me. In 3 hours that makes ~8pm GMT, the server maintenance should be over (or almost). I have premium time active, so we only need one more.
Or if someone else is online that wants to help out that has Premium Time. or you could get some real quick from the Lucky Charms event
Ok, so after my patch decided to take 4 hours to download I am finally back online. @epikt if you're still around, do you still want to do this today? Otherwise we can just do it another day, no problem. PS: I love my slow ISP . . .
So we had our duel. As expected the Thunderbolt won, mostly thanks to better cooling and shorter beam duration. I'm actually happy I managed to snatch a round (out of five). But of course it does not represent the builds' capacities in a team fight. We also tested a LPLas + 6 SPLas build on the Hellbringer, and it makes it much more suitable for duel (unfortunately we didn't had the time for a complete 5 round series).
Yeah, those were some great matches. Though the Thunderbolt won 4 times out of 5, all 4 of them were close fights too, as was the 5th, where the Hellbringer one. And yeah, switching the HBR's build to LPL and SPLs made it much more suitable for a 1v1 . . . we played two matches that way, and each won a match. And both of those fights were so close, it would have taken just one more shot from either person to finish the other. A good fight all round.
By the way, @Falconium and @POOTYTANGOSAUR , did you recorded videos of the duels? I have my PoV and will share it, but it could be interesting to do a montage with yours as well.
As you can see, the heat management is a real issue when you duel with the Hellbringer. There are also few other disadvantages like the beam duration and the big nose, not heat is the most important. Especially for a pilot like me, not so good at heat management and quick on the override The small pulse build was POOTY's suggestion and it's really better at duelling. I should have won the first round if I hadn't been so noob, and I think I would have serious chances to win a full Bo5 series (but dinner called so we only had 2 duels). Though the build wouldn't be so great for a real drop.
one of the biggest problems with the HBR energy vomit is the asymmetrical hardpoints. Take out the left torso and there goes all your firepower
That, more than anything, is why I tend to run the build with 2x UAC5 and 4x ERML these days. Lose one side, the other still hurts
I've noticed a lot of Gauss and ERML builds running around that frustrate me. All the ERML on one side, Gauss on the other. So I typically aim for the left torso, but then he still has a Gauss rifle once it's gone really no good option other than shooting CT against that build.
Great video, @epikt I really wish now that I had saved mine, so we could show both sides. But no matter, your video was great. And yeah, pretty much every one of those matches was extremely close; whether you won or I did, it was nearly always a hand-off between who would get that last good shot in. As an aside, I think your use of cover and range at the start of the Frozen City one made the big difference there. You had me already sore in my torsos before I got a chance to get a good shot on you . . . those high-mounts on the Hellbringer, as expected. Well played.
Depends on how you think of it. To me this is one of its greatest strengths, you have all the right side to soak damage without losing any firepower. In general I love asymmetrical mechs.
