Noob Laser Quirk Questions

    So I'm unsure as to what "Laser" quirks actually affect. I feel like I should already know this, but I have never seen it explicitly stated.

    1. Does Laser affect ER lasers as well?
    2. Does it affect pulse lasers?
    3. Does "Large Laser" affect ER lasers, and Large Pulse Lasers?
    I had assumed that "Laser" affected anything with laser in the name, "Large Laser" affected anything with large laser in the name, etc, mostly because if you have 3+ LPL the in-game warning tells you that you will get ghost heat from having so many Large Lasers (it does not say Large Pulse Laser)

    I assume however it behaves for large laser, it holds true for ac/5-ultra ac/5, ac/10-lbx/10, ppc-erppc, etc

    It depends on the wording. For instance, here's the quirks for the Stalker-4N:


    Large Laser Cooldown 10%
    Energy Weapon Cooldown10%
    Large Laser Heat Generation-10%
    Energy Weapon Heat Generation-10%
    Large Laser Range 10%
    Energy Weapon Range10%
    Missile Weapon Cooldown 12.5%

    So, EVERY energy weapon, regardless of type, gets the 10% bonuses. However, Large Lasers specifically get an additional 10% bonus to each category. Meanwhile, ALL missiles get a cooldown bonus.

    So basically, if they state a specific weapon, only it gets the bonus. If they state a weapon type (energy, ballistic, or missile), then all weapons of that type get the bonus.

    That means PPC/ERPPC get the cooldown/heat/range buff also.
    Technically TAG got it also I think...

    Just to clarify this is "Energy Weapon" bonuses and yes the Energy Weapon Range bonus does work for Tag's save as the generic "Missile" velocity, cooldown and range help Narc's.

    "Large Laser", "ER Large Laser" and "Large Pulse Laser" are all mutually exclusive in terms of quirks however. A Large Laser mechanically is NOT a ER Large Laser or a Large Pulse Laser. It is however both a Laser and an Energy Weapon.

    For example using the BJ-1X:

    Energy Weapon Cooldown12.5%

    Large Pulse Laser Heat Generation-20%
    Energy Weapon Heat Generation-10%

    Large Pulse Laser Range20%
    Energy Weapon Range10%

    Medium Laser Duration-20%
    Laser Duration-10%

    All Energy Weapons will get: Energy Weapon Range +10%; Energy Weapon Heat Generation -10% and Energy Weapon Cooldown 12.5%.

    All Lasers will get: Laser Duration -10%; Energy Weapon Range +10%; Energy Weapon Heat Generation -10% and Energy Weapon Cooldown 12.5%.

    All Medium Lasers will get: Medium Laser Duration -30%; Energy Weapon Range +10%; Energy Weapon Heat Generation -10% and Energy Weapon Cooldown 12.5%.

    All Large Pulse Lasers will get: Laser Duration -10%; Large Pulse Laser Range +30%; Large Pulse Laser Heat Generation -30% and Energy Weapon Cooldown 12.5%.

    Note in this example both a Large Laser and ER Large Laser only qualify for the Laser set of quirks.

    I've been playing MWO for about 2 months now so I get the gist of everything, but this thing is bothering me: Energy Weapon Cooldown Quirk is the time it takes for the energy weapon to recycle right?

    Basically IMHO, this should be a FAQ re the game or a sticky thread titled "Quirks explained - ask here".
