Yeah, but then they'd have to change the name of the game to "Marauder Warrior Online", because the only games that would happen would be 12v12 Marauder slugfests. On second thought, that's actually an amazing idea. MAKE IT SO.
Favorite to me means 'fun' and not 'best' so: Sparky for sure for variant. One of the few instances where a simple laser vomit tryhard build is supremely enjoyable to play. Pre-quirk, a whole chassis would be Jagers, Thunderbolts post-quirk are fantastically fun.
Well the question was whats your favourite mech rather than whats the most effective one at this point in time so a bit dubious about some of those choices .... For old time sentimentality the Yen-lo-Wang - my first hero mech, with a great paintjob and sucked me into the game properly while teaching me to love CT mounted MPL and arm mounted AC20's. That was closely followed by Dragon's which were my first heavy I played extensively.... despite them being awful. In time they were replaced by my Quickdraw 5K which still has my most games played award and taught me to skirmish and love mobile warfare. Dual AC20 Firebrands came later..... I can't really say anything here but... mech porn personified. No assaults that I'd consider fun nowadays. Mediums I enjoy but nothing stands out as a mech I'm sentimental towards long term. The Sparky is fun and fits my quite reckless skirmishing soul. Quirks didn't help it imo as ML in a Skirmisher... seriously PGI?!??!?! What can I say about lights - Jenners were my first mechs and I love them to this day. Fast enough to easily relocate anywhere, enough damage you can't ignore them, manoueverable, relatively small. Vicious in packs. FUN! Then theres two odd mechs - the Adder and the Locust. If challenge and being the underdog in a mech where you have to live on the knife edge and any mistake kills you appeals these are hard to ignore. Pre quirks if you did well in one of these you really could feel smug and look down on all the people claiming they were good pilots but hiding in Firestarters, Shadowhawks, Victors, Stormcrows, Timberwolves, etc. Yes that includes Jenners and Raven 3L's!
Now let's see,... In terms of lights it used to be my founder's Jenner. I still love it, but somehow the LCT-PB has kicked it from its pedestal. Mediums. Despite my love for my YLW, the BJ-1X still holds top spot here. 8 MLs, high speed, that mech is a beast and a fun one a that! Heavies. Cats! 'nuf said Assaults. Never really liked assaults. Too slow, too cumbersome, but yes, amazing firepower. As such a shared first spot for the King Crab and DWF.
We all have similar taste. My locusts are my favorite so it definitely isn't 100% about effectiveness though I do ok in my bugs anyway. My favorite medium is definitely Yen Lo Wang but my BJ-1X is hot on its heels. My first heavies were Dragons which I never replaced really until I got a Jagermech. I like being a spotter/fire support. Assaults aren't normally my thing (until we get Sunders) but the crab has clawed my heart.
No, PGI can use the reseen versions of the Robotech mechs. The names are allowed, and as long as the mech designs are sufficiently different from the HG ip, PGI will be fine.
The same mechs in the same sense that most of the mechs in game are the same mechs. A lot of the visual designs in game are still significantly different and are more like 'design inspired by' rather than 'instant recognition.' And of course, hard-points. Sometimes it's a good thing, other times its not. I think if PGI was serious about bringing in high quality 'inspired by' level of design, they could do it and the vast majority of fans would get behind them (even those of us who want the original straight out, a group I count myself in). My guess is many are willing, the problem is they're not willing to skirt that close to a lawsuit and have to waste time and money defending themselves even if they were confident of victory. Petty suits are still expensive for the winner, because not all the world properly punishes petty/frivolous claims properly. And of course, the chance that a loss could outright kill the company. I'm not 100% sure on how such an international suit would work (as PGI is in Canada, but the game is accessed all over the world, and the owner of the IP is XYZ), but my guess is Senor No-Sell would find a way to bleed PGI one way or the other even if things were settle under a system with 'loser pays'. Hell, maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it seems PGI is in this case too, so... Holding out hope, but not holding out FOR hope, if you know what I mean.
I still love my Heavy Metal and usually am doing quite good in it. The Highlanders need some additional love, though.
