Ok, so yeah, a friend of mine hopped on TS tonight, and asked me what kind of "fun" builds I knew of. The story: he has 20+ Million Cbills in his alt-account, and wants something crazy, fun, but still effective, to run. He's already considered a 6x LB2X Direwolf, and I also suggested my old favorite, the Chain-Firing-Freak. But he's really open to any ideas, so I suggested I could open a thread and ask Mechspecs for some ideas. So what do you all have? Any crazy, fun, but still effective ideas to share?
Jager 6DD 6x AC2, 2x ERPPC spider 5D, 2xAC20 cicada, LOCUST, AC20 Raven 4x, LBX10 x3 Illya, 3x Gauss Illya, 5x LL CTF 1X, Infinite PPC builds, LRM 90 Catapult A, Urban mechs Spider 5V, 6xMG Jagermech. I could think of more, but that's a good place to start.
Well oxide is a blast but I'm guessing no mc on alt account. I think doing anything in a locust will be loads of fun because it's one of the weakest most underated mechs. ...then again I may be sick
A very fun build I recently tried is stalker 4N with 6 LLas (plus modules if you can afford them, I'm going for cooldown only first)...fires 2 LLas every 2 seconds @ almost 600 meters and it's really cool (20% reduction on each !). 4 of them are extremely high mounted. constant stream of LLas, 2 at once. actually with cooldown module once you are done firing both groups without gosth heat, one it's already avaiable so the 2 ST LLas are a bit redundant and better adding some SRM and ML action, but 6 LLas is a lot of fun ! You always have something to fire that works well at any range (well up to 540m without mods). Plus it's a really unique build, that only the 4N can run so well (BLR-1D can do it faster but with 5 LLAS, and it's asymmetric).
Anything with 6MGs (unmacroed dakka dakka) Anything with cMGs (unmacroed .50 cal dakka dakka) And,... The HOBO with a shotgun:
I have to say this thread clearly underlined how we're all different.... Possibly "fun" should have been defined carefully at the start.
AWS-8T with 2xALRM15, 4xML, TAG, BAP, XL255, max torso armor, 40ish leg/arm armor, and 4500 LRMs. I'll post the build when I get home as I can't get to smurfy from work.
This one: https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/grid-iron-the-underrated-qb-2xuac5-1xmlas-std-200.7803/ Enjoy it until they replace the UAC5-Quirks. It's a badass build for the Hunchback.
That Jaeger build is really more of a mobile flak turret. I suppose you just find a good spot to hole up, pour out the dakka, and hope no lights or mediums find you. I enjoy the 12 spl nova build a lot. Maybe it's a troll build, I don't know. You get to lurk around with the big boys and when they engage you start potting legs. A shot from each arm is usually enough to take off a leg. 36dmg pinpoint with a .75s burn time is pretty nice. Also good for other exposed components. Don't fire both arms at once. The jumpjets let you get into ambush positions and let you drop down behind people on maps like mining collective or the swamp. A bit fragile so you want to kill quickly and then fade back into the throng or the scenery.
A mech where the weapon and ammo are taking 2/3 of the total tonnage, with only half the armor, and single heat-sinks because doubles don't fit, at least it's a fun build on paper! But true, if your team is fast you'll be running behind all game (and eventually get picked up alone), if the enemy is aggressive you won't stand very long... but sometimes it works! It's a game I played last night. Hopefully it was on a map with ridges where the Jager can shoot without exposing too much. Also I worked with a Friend in Atlas (he was faster than me!) that called most of the agro on himself. It's not a build I'd play every day (and not sure I'd drop solo with it) since it can be frustrating, but it's fun as in "totally over the top and extreme".
