I think that a 1 on 1 situation will favor DPS over a 12 v 12 situation where every second an opponent could be backup up by teammates and using cover will be more important.

This isn't a duel to determine anything important like which mech is better in a group (solo or queue). It's to see what would happen in a light vs. light situation. Even then, it is really just for fun because a true light vs. light would be both of these builds vs. a FS9-A or FS9-H and see who does best.

Also, I'm not taking machine guns. I'll run my typical build which only has 2x SRM4+A and plenty of ammo, not tailored specifically for a 1v1.

Yeah, I should be able to record with Shadowplay. Will see how many, but it'd be great to record all 5. :cigar:

Agreed this would definitely be good to see and learn from as I havent had any light vs light with no interference in her yet. Locust didn't count since I don't think he know what chasing him

Kinda makes me want the Javelin in game. If it could do that with JJ, well...

Falconium and I had our duel last night and it was good fun. Long story short, the Huginn won 6/6 matches.

(might have messed up the order here...)

First match was on Frozen City in the C3-C4/D3-D4 border area. We circled around a building. Falconium legged me VERY quickly, but my next shot legged him in return. It was then a battle to shoot each others remaining leg from only a few meters away. I shielded mine with my destroyed side and was able to put enough DPS into his legs to win the race. very close match. (then I went and killed the 2 enemy spectators with my legged Raven :p)

Second match was on Tourmaline Desert E5-F5 area. We engaged right where Theta usually is. Falconium tried to use the Crystal berms for cover, but I was able to short-cut pursue with my jump jets. We engage heavily at theta where Falconium connected with another good alpha to rip off my leg. I took cover below the ring in F5 to try and shield my legs with the terrain. I was able to hit with a few precise alphas to the Oxide's CT when he was doing a strafe run for my leg. I opened his CT nice and orange. He came back in for another go at the leg and one alpha took out the remainder of his CT.

Third match was on River City in D4. We engaged in the buildings. Falconium was able to use the building cover to benefit his alpha oriented build. He could alpha while running between buildings negating my DPS. Again I was able to connect a few solid hits to his CT. I got a good feel for Falconium's movements and was able to tail him. He ran away from the building cover for a bit too long allowing me to have a constant stream of SRMs, making full use of my DPS. Meanwhile he opened both of my legs bright orange/red before I landed the finishing blow.

Fourth match was on Mining Collective. Engagement was in the D3 area amongst the spherical silo things (fuel tanks? idk). This match felt very one-sided as Falconium was getting stuck on terrain a few critical moments where I was lining up shots at the same time. This allowed me to connect with a few solid CT shots with little effort. The Oxide was CT killed very quickly.

Fifth match was on Mining Collective again. engagement was in the D4 area this time. I was able to use my jump jets to out-maneuver the Oxide on several occasions. Again it came down to good lead shots and the great accuracy of the SRM4s with Artemis. The flat ground made it pretty easy to predict where to shoot ahead of the Oxide to hit that giant CT.

Bonus match on Forest Colony we decided Falconium should optimize his build a bit more for a 1v1 to see what would happen. So he traded ammo for an XL300 to beat the speed of my XL280. We engaged on the shoreline of D4. Like the earlier matches, Falconium was able to leg my Huginn. He then played it safe as I was able to open his CT. Subsequent strafe runs from Falconium couldn't connect with my remaining leg due to the spread of his SRM4s and me shielding that side. His attempts allowed me to connect and turn his CT red. I stayed in the cover of the hill/rock at the top of D4. We each only needed one shot to kill eachother. One good alpha from the Oxide and my last leg would be gone. All I needed was a partial hit to his CT. It got pretty tense for a moment because I didn't know where he was going to come from. Falconium was able to get behind me, but he approached from the opposite side of my crit leg. His volley didn't connect well enough and then he was out of ammo. My next shot connected with his CT and that was game.

    HUGINN IS VICTORIOUS!

Overall it was a fun time to really see what the strengths and weakness were for our builds and the mechs specifically. The Oxide was definitely better point-blank and I think Falconium would have had a better chance going for the Rambo style in your face type movements. The typical Oxide play-style of strafing a target doesn't work so well against a target who has a fast rate of fire, DPS, and very accurate mid range shots because of the Artemis. Because Falconium's typical Oxide build is slower (XL255) he really couldn't utilize cover because I could easily chase him with my faster engine and jump jets. I honestly believe the Oxide could win if it went straight in and forces the Huginn to use his speed / jump jets to evade. Strafing a target works well if the target is less maneuverable than you are. Not to mention the SRM4s without Artemis will be much more accurate at a point-blank distance. I think a lot of Falconium's shots were too spread at the engagement distances. This is backed by the games where my leg was taken off, I'm pretty sure he was very close each time that happened. I learned that the Huginn (and Ravens in general) has pretty huge legs and that I shouldn't keep 1 ton of SRM ammo in each of them :p.

This definitely isn't a determining match up as mentioned previously, but it helps us both learn something new about our builds against a similar role mech incase we see them on the battlefield. Case-in-point, when we finished the duel we played in the group queue for a few matches. We were both fairly equal with match scores. Both of us had a couple lack-luster games and mediocre games (by our standards). The last game though, Falconium was able to get a 6 kill ~800 damage game on Viridian Bog, a map the Huginn should be better on because of the jump jets. However, I stayed away from the group for most of the game to harass the backfield, and I accidentally ran to the wrong cap point (thought sigma was gamma) and wasted my time. Still a solid match for the Oxide. The Huginn also got a kill and (I can't remember ~600-700 damage)?

Ive witnessed Falconium play many games in his Oxide and my own experience playing both the Oxide (different build) and the Huginn, I have to say that the Oxide is far more consistent than the Huginn which depends on sustained fire. Speaking of sustained fire, I don't think a Huginn should EVER mount machine guns for DPS... they completely remove any opportunity you would have to torso twist or evade damage.

Well fought Falconium! Looking forward to future duels! (GRF-3M vs SHD-2K next!?)

Vergere should have some 3rd person footage of the first 5 games soon.

    I think too.
As I mention earlier the best way to duel lights in Oxide is to joust with them and avoid the circle of death as much as possible. It's true it makes your CT more vulnerable than it already is, but it negates a lot of the enemy firepower while making sure yours is optimal.
But I read Falc is mounting a 255 engine... it might be ok against big targets, but against another light I'm afraid it wasn't fast enough to be able to dictate the pace and form of engagement.

Keep in mind a Huginn has more room for engine and such because it only has to mount 2 SRM4s, saving 4 tons over the Oxide.

As well as stripping the arm armor considering Machine guns are useless on this mech IMO

Engine-size was definitely a downfall. At the start, we brought up the question of whether we should optimize the builds for 1v1 (that is, drop ammo a bit for speed) but we decided it'd be best to go at it with our normal PUG-match builds, as the idea was to compare their performances with the builds we normally use. For a 1v1 like this, a faster engine is obviously ideal (for lights anyway); though as we saw in the 6th match, where I brought a 300 engine, I still ended up losing! (I actually ran out of ammo, so a 300 engine was probably a bit too much.)

And yes, in hindsight, it might have been better for me had I simply rushed straight at you, and tried to hug you to death with my larger alpha (I'd be willing to try a rematch, just to see how it would go down). My fear in that scenario however, is that your increased range (quirks), accuracy (artemis), and fire rate (quirks) would allow you to already core my CT by the time I had gotten one alpha off; and your legs, for all that they're large, are still not as easy a target as a Jenner's huge CT . . . I noticed in the first 2 (or 3?) matches, that you worked to leg me; whereas in the last 2 or 3, you simply focused my CT, which took me down much faster. Different hitboxes make a difference . . . I think Ravens still have the better bargain in that regard.

But yeah, those were some pretty awesome matches! Most were fairly close, except the two on Mining Collective. For one reason or another, those two matches went very poorly for me in the Oxide (yes I got stuck a few times on the map, but that's where the speed and JJs of the Huginn come in really handy). Still, an exciting night overall, and some interesting conclusions for both our builds! I've now resolved to purchase the Huginn when it comes on sale next . . .

And yes, I'm looking forward to our next 1v1 challenge! I like the idea of Griffin vs Shadowhawk, though I personally think the result would be the same there: faster cooldown in a 1v1 makes a big difference, and the SHD-2K really doesn't have all that much extra alpha. I'm interested to see though. ;)
I'd also like to see a 1v1 between, say, a Firestarter-A and a Direwolf. Would the superior power of the Dire really outmatch the speed and agility of the Firestarter? I'm curious . . . :sneaky:
