This. His heart was in the right place and he had a horrendous job to do. Didn't think he was necessarily that effective but what are you going to do with all that hatred and negativity in the main forums.
I just hope it wasn't health related - the last twitter post from a day or two ago now said he was in the hospital for chest x-rays.
Hear Hear, I've been in that situation. Nothing to covet. Hope this is a step in the right direction for him.
Now things have taken a turn for th dark. If he was in the USA I would think he was just using dat insurance before he left his job. I hear Canada has a much better system, though...
If anyone thinks that dealing with newbs on an internet game forum is a hard job, lol. Just lol. Shit is jokes. ps - Dude has a twitter? What happened to gamers.
It's not just the nubs though...it's the bitchers, the "hacker" claimants, and the people who subscribe to John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory on top of them. And since anyone with the company who replies to a forum post will be the target of all that vitriol, they just can't win. It's like being a PR Manager for any major company that could even have the slightest bit of hatred towards it; it's one of the most unenviable jobs around, since you really can't win. Of course Niko has a Twitter btw...he probably had to for his position. Again, he's in a PR position...that's basic requirements these days.
Some people posting on the main forum are literally insane and off their meds... No I'm not joking. Including the only person I've ever blocked on TS3.
Yeah.. anonymity and the fact that you probably will never have the chance of getting any trouble is the problem. Some ppl would do better with rethinking what they post before doin' it, and some even do. But some are just resistant to good advice.... Aaaaand there are also the F*ยง#tards in the gamelobbies.... I had a situation once back in MW4. A guy in a friendly unit had a problem with me. I don't remember what it was... he started a flamewar against me. Teamkillng, always insulting me... well let's say it was a major nuissance... and I wanted to... hurt this guy. Then there was a MW4-lan-party. My first ever. And guess who was there.... I'm actually a pretty nice and polite guy (by my standards). Sadly, my appereance says: "aggressive". And back then I was like 190lbs musclebound because I worked out much. (Worked as a bumper in a night club and was doin' personal protection. I had to look like I knew what I was doin'. ) The look on his face when he rached for my hand and asked for my nickname..... and I told him after grabbing his hand..... priceless!
lol good shit, the only gamer ive ever met irl was some guy from UO back in like, 2000. he sold me some shitty weed... memories. was in a legit WoW guild when that game was still original vanilla, we had a meeting but it was in Dallas so spending several hundred bucks to meet some nerdfriends seemed quite absurd. i regret not going now in retrospect. kinda like not goin to the original MWO in-person tourny, it would've been hilarious smashing all those scrubs there then revealing myself as a banned forum asshat. Btw, did I mention that I'm unbanned there finally? Good chance I play the game again in '15 I played a bit with Niko way back when, he was pretty chill from what I recall. I still think those of u who consider that job as hard need to get some fucking perspective - its a game, entertainment, fun. If you think that job is just stress, you're as misguided as the forum freaks that lost perspective on the whole thing as well. I did pr for Darkfall vanilla launch, big fucking deal. I don't think I lost any sleep over bannning 2000 ppl on launch day, but my free lifetime game acct cost me some shuteye. Perspective.
If he cared about what he was doing it would be hard. Dealing with the public is a pain in the ass. Give me a Lab with restricted access and a ton of work any day of the week.
Hey, that's my job! Instead of dealing with the assholes in public, you get to deal with assholes in person instead! Trust me, no matter what job you are at, you'll find assholes who make you want to hire Midnite7175 to take care of them.
Caring is suffering... Back in MW4 I was made mod for one of the biggest german forums due to my background (knowing a lot about lore, tech, mechanics, etc.). I was first charged with the techmech section (kinda the same thing as with the mechlab here), after that I was charged with the tutorials and newbie-support, later I was responsible for the climate in the forums. Without losing my two former tasks. Not because I was the best player around suited for this task, but because I cared for the game and it's community, and it showed. Apart from the usual douchebaggery I enjoyed it, even if this meant that you had to be alert 24/7. It was my second life. (I didn't have a first life anyway until my daughter was born.) Bad thing that sometimes I cared too much and tried to solve everything.... But gettin' paid to do that (again)? Hell yeah!!! BRING IT!
