Ahhhh yes, group mode. I remember those!!!! LOL try doing it as a PUG. I'm at 8 games out of who knows how many. Gonna do one more and quit for the night.
Got 2 points so far. Played 5 games, win 4 of them, survive all wins. The thing is, I notice a few things: 1) people just turtle like mad. In one game evenryone spend 5 minutes hurling lrm behind cover. 2) kill stealing. (one of the games I am almost in the 1000 damage club with 2 most damage, 8 assist, but no kills due to everyone firing in when someone is stripped of armor.) 3) people rather lose than die. I know lrm is the way to go for events, and to be fair I run a lrm hybrid also (ERLL-LRM hybrid, stormcrow (ERLL+LRM25), catapult (2ERLL+LRM30), maddog (2ERLL+LRM30), stalker(3ERLL+LRM25), warhawk(2ERLL+LRM60), etc) and as you can see I am uping the LRM size for the event. But this is a easy event as far as I am concerned.
The kill stealing is INSANE. Take a 3L Super Chicken build and then just sit and wait and fire off the last volley. ECM plus kill stealing magic. I'm at 8 games for Friday night and I'm so fucking sick of the game right now that I am not even gonna think about playing to 10 tonight.
I just. .... No. Just no. I can't understand these pilots during this event. Are they playing with their toes?! I'm so frustrated right now. I went through 3 revisions of this post trying to cut down on the pure rant-rage. This actually makes me want to quit altogether; which is really a first.
I'm 7 for 9 games so far, and really haven't had trouble. It didn't hurt that my first six games were carried by my 3L (generally 650+ damage and 3-4+ kills). My last win was actually a streak breaker with Michael there, as I finally had a good game with a Mechspeccer along for the ride. Even PUGing this thing, I'm having a lot of fun. Haven't really had any trouble getting points, and I haven't adjusted my play (except for making my 3L a dual laser build again instead of a NARC build). So much better than trying to avoid kills like last weekend... Edit: I have noticed that playing my 3L always makes these easier. Mainly because I don't have to ask for an ECM mech to escort abandoned assaults, I just do it myself, and the team benefits. So much nicer just being able to do it yourself, than trying to explain to some derp why it's important...
Interesting to see how different our experiences are. If you are feeling this is the worst ever challenge, sorry, this clip won't cheer you up - we're having fun. In Swedish. We were down to 4 players (had 7 players earlier tonight) and had a few wins behind us, having fun in spite of the tournament plagues of overcautious teams and LRMzillas. We're in the groove, focus firing and communicating fairly well. As the round progressed we started asking if everyone had nailed the required kill, even holding off on finishing wounded enemies. In the last minute, we go extreme as our fourth member hasn't achieved his kill. In the very last seconds, me and our BJ1-X pilot strip the CT off a Stalker and our lancemate manages to secure the last kill, ending in laughter all round.
Yeah, still going solo, spider 5D is my companion of solo drops, love him so much. I noticed how I'm changing style tho, qualifying games are usually 1-2 kills, loss are those where I can get 4. Good thing this lasts until monday, so far 27 games, 11 wins, 10 points. In my last loss I soloed their 3 missile boats and we still managed to not win One loss was my fault, well kinda since I have 2 kills 900 damage on a spider, but I was killed by a uac5 dire 1vs1 for the win, tho my legs where both red when I engaged, but so was his CT. Would have been a great screen for last man standing, 3 kills 900+ damage Solo drops are double edged, matchmaker is only what matter for win or loss, but at the same time is much easier to get win+kill+assist+survive on wins. Also I prefer to have a lot of LRM on my side on solo drops, but also on their side, I can still cover my team with ECM even with nerf vs many LRM boats while my maters even if scared can still be useful endgame when I engage. Speaking of what, I find ECM almost useless now, even negative since you get less quirks.
Not sure I'd agree - seeing packs of 3 FS9-A's plus a CDA of some sort or SCR rampaging through the group queue. They're surviving games and wiping teams.
I got 7 points tonight out of 9 wins in PUGs, which is fine considering you won't always be able to get a killing blow in a victory. More tomorrow. What wasn't fine was that I lost 15 of my first 16 matches (including 11 losses in a row) and went 9 - 18. Sometimes I don't get what the matchmaker is doing...
Don't think its much to do with the MM its to do with the players capability and tactics.... Some matches I've sat with six TBR's, 5 warhawks or other assaults....... and my Mist Lynx.... ???? Very hard to work anything with that amount of armour and weaponry on the battlefield. Group queue is more balanced and often much lighter weight.
Never underestimate the power of derp either. I had a team on Alpine Peak Skirmish, instead of going to antenna or trying to rush up the hill, that went around the hill to the right. I sat there shouting for reason in chat...before flat out noting that "we've already lost, btw". I got 3 kills, no assists, 970 damage. Next person on my team had...137 damage. 7 people died with 0 damage. You just can't fix stupid. Edit: Incidentally, I am having a TON of fun during losing games just ruining people's days right before they win Any time I get a kill right before I die to end a round, I'm happy hehe
Ahah I'm doing the same. I also go check if they actually got the kill for more satisfation @Remarius I think it really depends on what you are used to, now 36 games, 15 points, all solo drops. I'd like to finish this and then use the leftover premium for something useful exp wise, but it's time to go out now, guess I'll try later and see if I'm lucky, at a 50% win rate I need like 10 to 14 games more.
Have to say I've just watched 5 teams in a row in the pug queue totally fragment and implode. The level of illiterate shit talking was extreme with people unable to even type in English when swearing 5 times in a sentence...... I guess there are 5,000+ people who have never played before on...
Yes, and vastly easier when you're playing an long range chicken build. I'd be glad to ear anybody happy with this challenge who is not piloting a LRM boat, and ERLLas light or any other *@$#¤! cheap build, and is dropping solo or in very short group.
I took out my 4 LL Jester to make the 1st point for the Premuim time, and then swapped to the Atlas 7S for levelling. The game with the Jester was the only one qualifying, as no one wants to support a charging Atlas any more.
This tournament sucks bum. Getting shot in the back numerous times when in front of an enemy about to drop. Getting killed at the end because I refuse to hide and insist on playing my normal game (my fault mostly, but seriously survival as a win condition is THE worst win condition). Team mates just running off to hide. Those that save their salvo until a mech is nearly cored... In the words of Golumn.
*smug*... Mist Lynx... just saying ... Added 15k to 2 of the variants today and working through the third. Half of the target hit. At least its a fun build and I'm stacking up xp on chassis I need it on.
