Just saw this on Reddit... From Russ; Hrm... What are Michael and TheB33f doing? I know Niko caught a lot of crap, but, honestly... He was the face to the gamers for a pair of companies that loved shoving their feet in their mouths. He made some pretty egregious errors, but, again, I cannot imagine how difficult and annoying his job must have been at times. Not to mention, being the focal point of all the hate and the fall guy when something went wrong... Anyway, thoughts? Good or bad?
Guess we'll see the new face soon . . . can't really say whether the change will be good or bad until it actually happens, and we can compare the before-and-after. Until then . . .
I think I read more posts written by Russ than I have by Niko in the past, but then again I don't really go read Mwomercs too often or check facebook. I'm sure they'll find someone, maybe force Sean Lang into the spot.
The populous uprising will be heard! garth garth garth Garth GARTH! (joking aside, I think it should be a brand new person. it should be much easier to step into this role now that Russ has at least got the train moving again and is on board with better communication habits and set that as a new precedent)
Highly doubt it. Wouldn't be in their best interest tbh. They need to find someone new. OutreachHPG Reddit has some good comments concerning this. http://www.reddit.com/r/OutreachHPG/comments/2mwefl/niko_has_left_pgi_russ/
Ummm thanks @Cpt Chattahah but no. I like being the guy people come to if they want answers that are direct, to the point and not full of flowery community growing bullshit. I tell it like it is and someone like that isn't really suited for attempting to repair a company's image; you need someone adept at platitudes and ego massages while still being able to hold cards close to their chest. I also have a habit of stating my opinions, if and when they diverge with the company line, and some people can't hear those types of things because they micro manage and are too busy maintaining steadfastly to their vision without the elasticity to remain fluid and evolve. I do feel bad for Niko on a personal level though. I like the guy and I know he picked up and moved across this great big country of ours to go work in a city where rent/mortgages are INSANELY over priced only to have the end result of this less than a year later.
Never want that to happen to anyone. So much hate for him from such a minority of people on the boards. Many people over react to mistakes and are quick to blame. I mean... mistakes WERE made, but no decent human being likes to see people lose their job over a mistake, one that didn't involve people getting hurt or losing money that is. I think you get what i'm saying.
The gaming community brings out some of the most disgusting nature in people who react to anything they don't like in 'their' game like the developer's are pouring acid on their newborn children. They foam at the mouth and whine about every little thing they disagree with according to their crooked logic. I can't even read a Facebook post by MWO without scrolling by people threatening not to buy hero mechs, want their MC back, demand their time back, want this that and a free back rub for giving PGI the pleasure of their playtime. My friend and I are dipping into game development.... Singleplayer or co-op only...
Always sad to see someone from a company you depend on leave. I hope he left in good standing. Best of luck to Niko.
Add my voice for the regrets and best wishes. I know even voluntary/necessary moves like are probably never really 'good terms', but I hope everything is on the best they can be and that the future is looking up for him.
Niko had one of those jobs that you would neither envy nor covet if you saw what he had to deal with. I tend to avoid mwomercs forums for the most point, but every time I go there, it's the same as any other game forum (ie, WoW, COD, etc): it's the place where people go to do nothing but bitch. I used to read the forums a lot (partially to annoy Jun Watarase, before we finally got them to quit ), but the amount of vitriol that goes on there is just ridiculous. I've seen it in countless games (particularly MMOs), and you just seem CM after CM burn out at the amount of shit they have to deal with. I'm much the same way...I have the personality that would make me give people true, honest answers, but I also have no patience with stupidity. The amount of degradation I would be forced to throw out on the forums on a daily basis would get me fired from a job like that in a week. To quote Tycho, "I understand why calling people idiots might be considered offensive, but I wouldn't have to do it if they weren't so fucking stupid all the time."
Whatever he did or didn't do. Becoming unemployed at this time of year is not something I would wish on anyone. Hope he lands on his feet
