One word: Factionbased. My guess is, that once factions come to play combined with the new conquer mode and dropship limitations. Some will prefer (or will need) some machines over others even if similar in loadout or tonnage. The Enforcer was a Lyran Mech iirc for example, and although the Hunchback might represent a good alternative as it is available for all houses, it lacks JJ's. Et voila, there we have the spot to fit the Enforcer in....
there will come a Day when we get a 35t Mech, a 55t, a 75t, a 100t etc. with 4x HPs of each Weapontype in each Body Component plus ECM plus 3AMS plus 12JJ Slots and Engine Cap at 400. Then you don't need no other Mechs anymore because u can build whatever config u want. Except you go for the Look&Feel. Then PGI don't need to release any further mechs. Hooooray

Because...you're...super desperate to fill tonnage and slots, don't have room for another DHS, but 1 MG + 1/2 ton of ammo can do just that? I mean, it's better than floating tonnage, but yeah, I'm reaching at straws too.
Then redesign it a bit, move some armor, change the engine rating, etc. A single MG does not work. 2 MG is ok, and 3 is going somewhere nice.
I have bought the Resistance Pack today, coz i want that Atlas and that KingCrab Special Edition. FTW!
BTW, noob question: where (or when) do we choose the faction(s) we want to get the special features from? I bought the pack mostly for the purple (well, a little for the Panther too), it would be a shame to end with a Liao camo.
One thing i just realised, included in the packs are faction content. Colors for each faction. That's something I didn't calculate with in the first evaluation on purchase. Hm.
Indeed. But shiny colors won't turn aweful mechs into killing machines... I still consider the package good enougg for anybody not already possessing a full garage or who wants the giveaway King Crab coming in December. Other than that... not a single variant of the mechs included seems to be worth spending real money on for me.
True, I'm not too impressed by the mechs. Grasshopper may be a bit unique, a jumping heavy with that many energy points is interesting. If I do decide to get this pack, it'll be because I wish to support the game rather then gain unique benefits. For someone without a full garage, I see the appeal. There's a lot of things extra too for new starters. I do wish they would do faction packs with colors and patterns. Maybe someday.
Yeah I've not bought a colour scheme to date as I play a lot of mechs. They just seem like cons when its one time per chassis, aka 30 times for all the IS and 10 for the Clan. If there was a good House Davion colour scheme I'd actually contemplate it but most units have their own paint scheme which even further devalues patterns.
