What is this.... Cakesauce of which you speak? I am intrigued.

On another note, the nice thing about grinding Shadowhawks is that there is no garbage variants. Made their leveling much better.

It's true. Shadowhawks never were a dull 'Mech to play, and they still never are. There is so much capacity, so much potential, in each one of them. Best IS Medium EVER! They're like:
    :spiderman:
    and
    :stig:
    and
    :blackalien:
    and
    :astronaut:
    and
    :ninja:
    and :bag: . . . oh wait . . . not like him, he's weird.

Unfortunately, in real life it is merely sauce applied to cake to make it more delicious, such as the glaze dribbled on many varieties as standard preparation.

However, by the Philosophy of Sauce, my pet term for the slang phenomenon that seems to be extremely region and age specific...everything is 'sauce'. Awesome-sauce, lame-sauce, weak-sauce, uber-sauce, you name it...just append 'sauce'.

But yeah, to get past the dud variants such as that one particular Spider, you have to make the fun to think of it as something other than grind. My particular method for these is to treat it as troll training. The Spider-of-which-we-do-not-speak is actually really easy for this...the thing can equip 12 jump jets. TWELVE. JUMP. JETS. Get high or get dunked, man! You either go super-speed + JJ to go anywhere, any time, or you go flying zombie and become stupidly hard to kill for what the mech is while getting assists. Either way, make sure to have an appropriate troll soundtrack playing to keep yourself in the mood.

The sale was nice to grab an XL275 at 45% discount. Only reason to own the SHD-5M for another 30 seconds. Besides some Locusts and a Thunderbolt it's the only mech out of the Phoenix Pack I sold. The other variants are simply superior.

Thats actually not a bad idea.....

Sadly though I think all my mechs capped at 275 have xl 275 engines in already.

I am fine using that XL275 in builds I'd usually do with an XL280 because the difference in speed is barely noticable. You need to know that each and every one of my mechs is ready to use (besides modules), therfore I like grabbing a good XL for cheap.

The only problem of the 'hawk is that dull cockpit view. The rest are just first class, even with the lack of massed energy hardpoints.
Then again, if you want cockpit then there is always Griffin.

Was just about to start buying spare XLs to make my mechs drop ready (aside from modules) as well. Then I heard about these quirks and suddenly all of my set builds might change. Plus, I might have to buy some more mechs back depending on those quirks.

Good tip with the -5M, though. Might want to do that it anticipation of possibly buying the raven-4x back...

I have not mastered mediums yet. I had not used them, ever, prior to this sale.
