Wrote a short discussion about Fang and it's quirks here: https://www.mechspecs.com/threads/is-the-fang-worth-it.3310/
In fairness I just always wanted a LPl testbed as they should be a cool weapon but always underwhelmed me in the cold hard reality of battle.
Na, actually i meant something like who would run some other AC e.g. 2xAC5/2xAC2/UAC5+AC5/2 on the Fang anymore? e.g. Double Dakka was the popular approach on the Fang. Now who would run it with these quirks?
Awesome 8Q - Tier 5 Support Additional Structure CT +20 Additional Structure LT +10 Additional Structure RT +10 PPC Heat Generation -25% PPC Range +25% PPC Velocity +25% PPC Cooldown +25% Laser Duration -16% Ignore ghostheat now, 4x PPC is back. Alpha all the way.
I never ran it tbh and have some fairly good Fang stats (avge 1.83 kills and 503 damage per match) so no loss to me at all.
see? that's the problem. PGI is driving the players You'd never know how you'd perform in comparison if you never tried.. btt: I think these Quirks will have a big impact in the Build Ratings, because now how would you rate a Build, if it doesn`t use any of the Variant-Quirks??!
Slackers or Run hot or run home! ...but yeah, STD 300 with more heat sinks is probably a lot more reliable.
Oh I thoroughly agree and i was surprised how well the Fang turned out for me. To an extent its a personal thing as I much prefer AC5's to UAC5's as I've had some horrendous deaths due to being unable to suppress opponents due to jams. But with a level playing field I've always found I do better with certain weapons. What I like about the quirks is they give me a reason to use a variety of things I'd normally not use rather than rely on a relatively narrow slice of equipment. On the ratings - isn't that how its always been? If you don't rate builds on their effectiveness what are you rating them on?
How much the build's OP bribed me of course! Or how many posts they've had on site. Or whether or not I like the nickname they give the build. Certainly not effectiveness, or whether or not it matches my play-style. No sirree.
Now I'm going to have to find a way to add these quirks to the forum sections so people don't ask me to do it next week or something
If you want me to, I could do that. Just like the Clan Mech section, a stickied thread in the main chassis discussion forum describing all variants should do the trick for IS mechs. After monday a lot of pressure will be off my shoulders and I can start working on that, and on finishing the clan mech quirks.
YA THINK!? My quick math including a lvl5 AC5 cooldown and a lvl5 ERLL cooldown puts it at ~11 DPS and remaining heat efficient... THAT'S NUTS!
So they are halving all weapon specific bonuses... And giving the other half to all other weapons of the same type! So, want an AC/5 in your HBK-4G? Sure, it's 12.5% CD. Want an AC/20? You get the whole 25%! It's almost like Christmas!
Good news indeed! This is good news that alleviates most of my concern about the pass being too specific, and retaining some of the basic Tech balancing. I'm still a tad concerned about where quirks are being doubled up on the same aspect, but this is a good demonstration that PGI is willing to iterate as quickly as they can and keep updating. If they're willing to jump on problem quirks that swing things too widely and change them, then it looks like we've got good things to look forward to!
