So I recently switched to using a Saitek EVO joystick, configured for left handed use, instead of my keyboard with x & y mapped for turning and throttle, buttons to weapon groups, etc. I've found increased control over turning & throttle helps with tracking targets and piloting in general. Is anyone else out there doing this? once past the learning curve I'm enjoying the game more.
I use this throttle, the joystick is put behind my monitor: With this mouse: I only touch my keyboard for chatting, which I don't do often. This is because once the game starts if I use the chat function it turns my throttle to zero, which is uber annoying...
Very few people actually use joystick because it simply isn't as fast or accurate as a mouse. The throttle idea is a neat touch although I am not sure how you would change your direction unless you just use the trottle for your constant speed (W and S) and then still use your A and D to steer and your mouse to shoot. What mouse is that by the way? The color on the faceplate is sick!
Chattahah is correct, love the mouse. As for the throttle there is a rocker bar that I use to steer the legs with right at my finger tips, the throttle itself controls the speed. Plenty of buttons between the throttle and mouse for everything needed for game play. Here is the front picture so you can see the rocker. Happily there is a long enough cord between the stick and throttle to just put the stick behind my monitor.
I use a mouse (right hand) with the joystick (Left Hand). I thought about doing the same thing Bunny is doing since I have a Saitek Throttle with the rocker arm thingy, but I don't like the response of the rocker arm. I have Throttle control mapped to the Y axis of the joystick, and steering mapped to X. Trigger is weapon group 3 other buttons are mapped to various in combat controls.
Indeed. Far too many fingers wasted on holding a throttle grip or joystick. I prefer my three fingers for WSAD movement that can also be used to press buttons adjacent for useful things...
Why is the joystick there? There should be mouse pad, the price can be lower too by... Where are some usefull features besides map panel?
Necroooooooooooooooo mania As far as I know this controller idea was scrapped. MWO simply isn't big enough for a manufacturer to look at it seriously. It takes money to make a product like this and skill to make the interface.
I like logitech, my gear: day night Looks nice, but my 20fps are not so nice
I am still doing this by the way, and it has worked out well for me. I have the EVO configured for left handed use... I am basically driving the vehicle with it. and have buttons mapped to weapon group #3, JJ, ECM & View modes, Arty/Air. Mech4 Keyboard in the middle for when I have to type. Roccat Kone+ (new aquisition to replace my RIP Drakonia) With weapon groups 1, 2, 4, 5 on the main buttons Zoom & Advanced Zoom on the scroll wheel a shift button, and some weapon specific macros on the other buttons. It's a good setup for me, when I get to use it, and the controller configuration translates over to other FPS games with a minimum effort. I have enough buttons between the two control points to do everything needed in MWO with buttons to spare.
Never thought of playing with my logitech freedom on left hand, its constructed for right-handers But i have little, but precise analog joystick on my g13 for left hand, can try it out for movement... Thx for idea...
There is a learning curve if you've been playing with the keyboard. For posterity
Analog JS/Mechanical key Mod I am doing on an old nostromo There will be a custom circuit board for the keys & integrated LED's Keys are Cherry Black Keys will be individually lighted, and colored by quadrant Hand rest will be covered with blood red colored leather and the rest of the controller will be painted black extra buttons from removed thumb rocker will be integrated into a custom plexiglass base. Cheers!
No going to help you much if you are not in asia. Arcade only. You customize the shit out of your mech, tps though. Really good system for giving out point/xp for different task. The official site: http://borderbreak.com/ The wiki (cannot survive w/o this, really): http://www12.atwiki.jp/borderbreak/ All is in jp though, too bad.
