No, you are right. Some Mechs really have some hardpoints that are not similar to the TRO's. This was made generally for two reasons: 1) to get 3 different variants when there originally were none. 2) to make a variant more competitive. Gimme a couple of minutes. What about armor values though? My MW4 TRO-specced Jenner was like piloting a paper airplane. I feel like a tank in MWO in comparison.
Oh I agree its not a direct cross over but the hard points are almost always the same. I dearly remember when they doubled the armour values. Huge improvement.
'eh, I liked living on the edge with the low armor values. But I'll admit that the higher values are better for an arcade game with smaller maps.

To each their own. I never really had a problem with this. And the few times it happened to me I considered it my own fault for being in the open. Of course I have a healthy case of paranoia so running around at top speed, naked, in the jungle I expected charlies in the trees around every corner. God I miss that.
Some variants would be totally the same if not for the extra hardpoints, since you will swap out the crap weapons. Also, there are equipments not available in MWO, things like C3 and backward facing Lasers and what not. I don't maind a bit of small changes here and there to mke things a bit more playable. Well, as long as they stay within reasonable amount. (seriously YLW need an extra hardpoint or so, one if the customization does have an extra energy I think) As for the Black Knight, I don;t think they are doing the JJ version, since Russ comments about "keep in mind Grasshopper have JJ and more variated weapon" That having said, that missile hardpoint is on the head and can do little to nothing, and only a fucking idiot would put an LRM5 there and hope it would be useful.
I would rather go with a SRM4.... Seeing how most variants got 1 extra MIsile point my bet is that the Grasshopper will get a second missileslot in the right torso as well....
