The guys are not as fragile as you would think. My firebrand i would go toe to toe with almost any other mech. twice today in frozen city ive gone up against 2 mechs against just me in the tunnel and core em both with my twin/ac20 and 2 medium lasers. He is my go-to mech over anything, even over my atlases and lights. with that said, if i was in a competitive match, he doesnt have anything to offer aside from raw dps.

the trick with these guys these days is to position yourself on the enemy flanks or sides and drill at the core with the ac/20's while they are distracted with someone better suited for aggro. like a light mech, once they start figuring who just cored 2 guys in less than 30 secs u better run and find a better position.

with an average of 3 kills and over 400 damage a game its hard to say these guys can't perform.

also on a side note, these guys are not the fastest, but just fast enough to find your self on the frontlines before the people that need to be there are there yet. you must avoid this at all cost or you WILL die. dont get impatient with these guys and you will be rewarded

I don't know if I'm committing a faux pas by posting on this thread, but I had to comment. I concur with Leonhart. I run a Jager Double D that is similar in almost every way to his Firebrand. I have found that I am incredibly competitive with this build, and honestly with all the Jager chassis. The key is knowing your role; your strengths and weaknesses. This obviously is true with any platform, but the Jager has some major weaknesses and if you're not conscious of them, you will go boom.

I use it as a stalker and position myself carefully. I think of my DD as Alexander's companion cavalry. While my team's "phalanx" is pinning the enemy down, I (and if I'm lucky enough to run with my pal) will flank the enemy and smash through their rear. This worked to dramatic effect last night on Tourmaline; I came away with four kills and four assists and my buddy got two kills. We essentially ran through the enemy ranks and they broke.

There are times when I die easily over a couple of matches. But most of the time, I've found the Jager to be pretty sturdy and I almost never leave without two kills. There is nothing lighter than it that can hang with it one on one (maybe I just have a good feel for the weapon system, but I generally do not have a lot of problem with lights), and even assaults routinely fall to my AC/20s because I'm faster than they are, can go around them, and hit them in the back. Not many mechs can hold up to more than a couple of well placed salvos.

My Firebrand is a Gauss/PPC platform that I use mostly for sniping. My JM6-S is a three UAC-5 (chain fired to avoid jamming) build with a MG and a small laser that chews through things pretty well. My JM6-A has four LRM5s (mostly for harassing) and one PPC and one Gauss with TAG.

In closing, I started out as an Atlas pilot, but moved on to pilot Jagers most of the time. They aren't my favorite aesthetically, but they get the job done for me. But as with every thing else, they aren't for everyone.

    See you on the field.
