It's crazy this build hasn't been posted yet (or am I blind? I hope not  ). It's my favorite phract build, of all variants. Well, there is a similar build that in addition to the autocanons carries MLs. All I'm saying is: "fuck backup weapons! if you have spare tonnage just add more ammo!". The absence of backup weapons is not only being an AC purist, it's also a matter of heat management. The build is already hot, I wasn't using them a lot anyway. Of course the UAC/5 version is better as long as it has ammo. But that was the problem, ammo. Or the engine, that as to be either XL (outch my elbow! I tend to avoid XL on phracts as much as I can) or too damned slow (I just can't stand walking at 50kph). I like the 250STD, it's still slow but you can't do much better on this variant (255 max), and being STD provide a welcome survivability boost. It also don't require additional DHS, allowing both endo-steel and ferro-fibrous upgrades. Armor is almost all on the front, because you need to expose yourself, and tank if needed, in order to deal damage over time (14+ dps, but low alpha). The low armor rating in the back makes your vulnerability against lights even higher (you already don't have the good weapons to deal with them). That's the major weakness of the build, be aware of it. I have 3 weapon groups: 1: AC/5s, 2: chain fired AC/5s and 3: AC/2s. Most of the time I shoot AC/2s and chain-fired AC/5s in order to cause as much disruption as possible. I only fire both AC/5s together when I need instant damage, such as aiming at immobile light mechs. Most of the heat is build by AC/2s, when you're in the red you can still safely fire AC/5s. (out of ammo, crap... just after this game I noticed I had 17 empty slots... gg epikt, never too late to wake up... so I loaded one more ton of AC/2 rounds)
Well, I have to endorse this, if only for the name Seriously though, looks like a solid build. Good speed and firepower on a Std engine.
Wow... With the Standard powerplant... Nice. I've run this build, but, I ran an XL to open up room for backup weapons, ammo and heat sinks. However... Your STD engine is veeeerrrrrrry tempting! I may have to try this out! Dig it!
Even i, the bad pilot, can get 600+ damage with this set up. It is so easy and fun to use. You can squeeze in one more ton of ammo at the cost of some speed, 53 vs 63 Km/h
I have to pipe in here, because this has easily become my favorite mech/build. First of all, I run a macro on my AC5s. I am not ashamed. This build SHREDS. I run it with Seismic and Adv Target Zoom. You are still a big fat target, so you have to stay back a bit out of the fight. Once people realize what you are doing, they want you dead fast. Hang back, pop guys that are not paying attention and rip guys who charge without heed. I did swap in a 255XL, however, with quite a bit more ammo and AMS. YMMV, but I run XL all the time without issue. You just have to play smart. FWIW, and I need to post SS, I average about 550 with this build. If I play smart, though, I am up in the 700s easy with a few spikes into 900. OUCH Lobster. OMG.
I've run this build exclusively in my 4x since I puchased it. The only difference, when I started I used a STD255 and was running out of AC2 before the end of the engagement... dropping the STD250 in allowed for an xtra ton of AC2 voila... thank you epikt, thank you mechspecs for this Angry Freekin Monster Lobster of a build.
I take it the "Lobster" is because of the smaller 'underclaw' of the AC/2? And why not just put on another AC/5? Then you don't have to worry about different ammo types!
The weight savings from the AC2s let you run a near-max Std engine, which is the beauty of this build. Four AC5 builds are horribly slow on a Std.
This is my variant of current build. I called it «ULTRA Angry Lobster». Pros: + I WANNA SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE YOUR COCKPIT! + 0 free slots Cons: - 240 engine slower CTF-4X ahhh didn't predict 1 sink :S this build can't work =(
You need an XL engine for and 2xUAC/5 + 2xAC/2, at least if you want enough ammo and mobility. Assuming you don't jam the UACs, it's absolutely brutal. But as I said in my OP, I like the survivability provided by STD engine. And to be honest I'm kinda sloppy with the UAC
I run the same weapon configuration on the Jager DD, it's a great build. Lately I'm seeing my ST focused more than I'd like and I have a brawler mentality. I think the STD engine would be a good addition to this style of mech. This is the heaviest mech in the game, Dec2013, that can take Quad Ballistic weapons. Ballistics are the king of sustained DPS and that's exactly what I enjoying bring to the battlefield.
Well, it's similar to my Gunslinger, but much more faster and without weapon of last hope medium laser.
