That's a reason. Give the Project to James Cameron and it will be successful. Did anyone know the Universe of Avatar before it came out? Btw Pacific Rim made 400+ Mio. worldwide, that's ok. The story was trashy, but completly respecting the original kaiju Movies. I like the movie.
I bet they could make a really cheesy soap opera based on battletech. Or better yet, a Korean Drama (or any other asian one, if you've seen how those go). "WHAT?!? YOU are in love with my dear Omi? "
They could focus on the Clan invasion of the inner sphere. Short backstory on the clans focusing on Clan Wolf, short mention with question about scouts in the inner sphere, cut to wolfs dragoons prepping their best pilot to fight in solaris, bravado starts while cutting to other pilots, introducing main characters along the way. Main character wins solaris, his merc commander tells him not to get cocky because they have a job... small skirmish on one of the outer worlds between blah blah house and some renegade unit.... mech porn spot as they load up the drop ship. They could maybe flesh this out with a rivalry between the main characters unit and wolfs dragoons. Open scene on outer planet. short introduction between tersary characters from house blah blah and the main characters unit.... interupted by news of strange mech unit attacking outer outpost. Main character's unit along with some Blah Blah units are sent to investigate... more mech porn. Main characters unit and several BlahBlahs are decimated by a few mechs of unknown origin serious mech porn during the battle. Main character lives along with love interest from blah blahs.... or she dies and he vows revenge, or his unit commander dies and he vows revenge.... both would work. Battles lost while he heals. Much mech porn. Information about the clans is leaked by an unknown source... this could be wolfs dragoons. Battle plans are made. main character joins force, and is pivotal in the first succesfull battle against the clans end roll credits. Edit: I say Peter Jackson could do the movie.
If they did it, I would pray and beg for the Battle of Luthien. That's all I really need. I'm getting way too excited. I feel as if ILM would be almost required for Special Effects. And hopefully if they do that... they'll use Skywalker Sound for audio/music, and then my Uncle can get me an advance screening... /End hopeless dreams. I would love a battletech movie. I'd prefer theaters, but I'd live with a straight to DVD if that is the way it had to be.
I think Peter Jackson should make a Diablo/Warcraft Movie, while James Cameron (THE Terminator/Alien Man) should do Starcraft Mechwarrior. p.s. Did you know that ten yrs ago (at the time of MW4) Producer Dean Devlin (ID4) was very interested in making a MW Movie?
i agree with everything else, BUT IF PETER JACKSON F***ING TOUCHES MY PRECIOUS BATTLETECH/MECHWARRIOR WITH HIS FILTHY HOBBIT-MAKING HANDS THE WORLD WILL END!!! hint : guess what i thought of both hobbit movies
LOTR aside, he did do District 9 which had some serious mech action at the end, and was a movie that I actually enjoyed. [quote author=Blagg Zear link=topic=3305.msg41527#msg41527 date=1397769630] I think Peter Jackson should make a Diablo/Warcraft Movie, while James Cameron (THE Terminator/Alien Man) should do Starcraft Mechwarrior. p.s. He only produced District 9, and I'm not even sure how big his involvement was. Anyway, my opinion on Peter Jackson is he should stop doing those big geeky blockbusters, and make other movies like Braindead, Meet the Feebles (if you enjoy trash), Heavenly Creatures or Lovely Bones (if you're girly).
You guys seem to have either missed or forgotten that I produced a fan fiction film almost a year ago. Fortunately with Davion Entertainment Group investing eight kajillion cbills into the project, I did have enough money to hire Bruce Willis and some others though. It holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and got a raving review in the New York Times
You need more tentacles, more mechs with boobs, more posters with explosions in the background, more bananas, more dragons...
Glad to know! Pacific Rim is great and a Sequel will be coming. The Box Office Numbers are great, compared to other Blockbuster First Movies, e.g. The Fast & the Furious, X-Men, Batman Begins, Star Trek (2009) etc. Del Toro is working on a script since last year and Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull has already expressed his big Interest in a second part recently. If Godzilla rox the Cashcow we will see some Big Monsters & Giant Mechs Movies in the next following years. A Mechwarrior Movie is only a question of time i guess. James Cameron would be the perfect guy for that as he already has a big Interest for Mechs since Aliens (Part II) and Avatar. But as far as i know his time schedule is fucking overloaded with three (yeah 3!) sequels for Avatar. In the Past i read about his Interests for 'The Informationist' and the Manga 'Battle Angel (Alita)'. Don`t know if he really has time for those projects. I even read about James Cameron plan to end his Film Making Career after finishing the Avatar Saga and fully focus on making dokumentations (what he already did mainly in the past 16yrs). (outdated info)
Gunnm is a really hard comic to translate into movie. I mean, even the movie you get is totally trashed compare to the original story. I think I might have missed a few but things goes CRAZY later in Last Order. But Damn! All those robot martial arts things... Also think about the part whee she fights the Metal Lord (Centaur thing) in wedding gown being animated...
Unfortunately that was crap, the manga is around 100 times better, a great description of the distopian world, including the ones above Ladder, and much more after the fall of Ladder in the sequel, info on the martian wars and what not. Great designs and characters, even cooler martial arts things, something I would totally want to run in many RPG. And yes I did one of those things in a tabletop RIFTS game, and it is quite cheesy to say the least.
