25 Missiles is not a LRM boat (or play a kintaro-18), and 5 med is not enough. In my opinion, for an assault, you are neither good in LRM or neither at short range. you should better focus mass LRM (min 40 missiles) or at least 2 large. Something more like that
You're right. I posted this here because the x198's original build was based on a 3F. As for using the 5M as a missile boat, got that covered: The 5M isn't the best Stalker chassis for an LRM boat by a long way. It was just interesting to see if the weird missile pod layout could be used effectively.
Imho Caspian's build is better because of the LLs. If your only beam weapons are ML, it either means it's backup weapons of a large LRM weaponry (mine was LRM60 + 4xML + tag), either a short range brawler full of SRMs. Anyway, 5x LRM5 on a stalker... what a waste of tonnage. Just so you can admire how useless it can be, here is a video of a random guy running this build (kind of), record 2h ago. Don't worry, it ends well. (for some reason I fail to record my voice... maybe it's for the best, my comments were not very nice ) (dammed, i was told the video is not working for now... give it some time)
I totally disagre with your analysis on the use of the 5xLRM5. In chainfire, they can totally disable a target as it will be under a constant rain of missiles. I use a similar build with a catapult C4 (http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=3108.0) and the 4xLRM5 leave a short (very short) time gap where no missiles are fired, but I have some nice score with it. It is clearly not a LRM boat, but a specific kind of support that can really shine sometimes. My best and funniest game with this variant, I killed 2 Atlas and a Victor with the help of only a Jenner and a Raven. For this build, I would better use LL to hit target under LRM fire. Laser are a ggod addition with this type of build as they force you to stay on the target, keeping the lock for the LRM. Perhaps something like this :
Seriously? Look all that needs to happen is to have 2 mechs with ams and not a single missile will ever hit. Ever. 1 mech with ams, and maybe half the missiles will hit. Maybe.
Sure it is not for competitive play, more for fun in PUG drop. But try it, you will see how fun it is when you really see the confusion of a targeted isolated mech. I often see people with massive armor and armament (who says ATLAS) beginning desperately to run to find a cover for.. LRM5? :-D
