A basic STD engined SRM brawler with some ranged potential. Don't let the heat efficiency #'s fool you - on ERPPC's only, you're at 36%. On SRM's only, you're at 68%. (Updated for new heat mechanics). So the owners manual is pretty clear on this: Outside of 270 you take your potshots with the ERPPC's, inside you let the SRM's do the majority of the work. I picked ERPPC for this because I prefer not to have the min range limtation. Why is this a big deal? Well in a healthy condition it probably isn't - but when large pieces are hanging off your mech and you're smoking like Marley and have 1 SRM4 and 1 ERPPC left and the commando that's been nipping at you all game decides he's a brawler now, it suddenly becomes pretty important. True story: killed an atlas last night with my SRM4 - the only functioning weapon I had left. So sometimes it's just a matter of outlasting your opponent. Like most standard engine assaults with 450+ armor it is incredibly tough to bring down as long as you can stay on the move and distribute damage by torso twisting. Anyone that wants a piece of you better bring friends and better also figure out a way to not stand in front of you. The toughness of this build is what inspires the name primarily. Lastly, and just by the way, I have a 305. I dunno WHY I have a 305, but I happen to have one. So it just fits into this build nicely and, believe it or not, actually makes the big guy feel pretty peppy! Moves well for a big man and all that. Especially helpful when countering circles by reversing. You can circle with a light mech in reverse long enough to make him reconsider what the hell he's doing looking at a stalker's nose at least. Even a few near misses is enough to chase most lights once they figure out they can't get behind you and you have no min range. So that's it. Basic, obvious, easy to figure out. It's a Battle Axe. Thanks for reading! P.S. Armor distribution is always a personal thing but I find 20 on my back plates here is about right because I've had no problems keeping people out in front of me. And up front then you're pretty much a brick wall.
I find it a bit of a waste when you have a 5M not to use the zombie potential of fitting your CT with a LL or LPL. Nevertheless, the build is solid, although I'd probably run it on my 3F instead due to the better (further) torso twisting.
If you take out one DHS, you can easily add the STD310. that said, I do agree with SubjectSeven. so, a 4-5 for a good build.
Could also go this way with it... Gives you a little more heat to play with up close, you still have plenty of range and hold onto some power if you lose a wing. Especially with the PPC heat getting bumped up again. Downside; you have to hold that damn laser in place to concentrate damage... But PPCs splash anyway! Eh, just an idea. Either way, excellent build, as always, Warchanter. Chatt.
It's pretty good! Definitely better for lights I'll tell you that... the ERL's also get you a little more cooling and of course the weight savings so definitely a viable alternative I think Chatt. I don't know that you get the same psychological reaction as getting smacked with a double PPC shot, and there's a little less range there but... not a deal breaker by any means. The heat and weight savings, plus the added capability vs. lights more than make up for it. I think you just have to ask yourself which weapon you're more comfortable with - either way you're gonna be solid. Thanks for the suggestion Chatt!
